Zefevinee reacted to Fantastic in Rumors on repro shakers?
Just saw an ad for a '69 R code shaker repro. Ad claimed all metal as per original, can't tell from original....and priced as if it were an original...lol.
I've always cringed at the price of shakers. Knowing there are as many, or more, 351w cars out there, I would think the market would be there for that part at a fair price point. They currently sell for more than the original price of the whole car.

This is the beginning of my build, as I just pulled her out of storage this past weekend. I've had this car since 1977, bought as second owner with 51k miles on it. I drove her all through high school and a few years after when I decided to use it as an occasional Friday and Saturday night cruiser. I pulled the original 351 2v Windsor and installed a 351 Cleveland. After a few years and a few motors I put her in storage just prior to joining the Air Force. As you can see from the inspection sticker, it's been in storage in at least four different storage units in two different states since 1984. Raising two children, acquiring a degree and building a business has taken much time from me, but I've finally arrived and this is the day.

I wished I had all the money that I spent on keeping her in storage, not to mention dragging her to several locations over the years, but this car has always been special to me and as you will see fated to be mine. Let me explain. I grew up in San Antonio Texas. Occasionally, during the summer months when we were out of school, my father would take us to the nearby mall for dinner. I was about thirteen then and in the parking lot of the mall was this gorgeous Mustang. I would look for it every time we went to the mall and more often than not it was there. Eventually the day came when its respective owner moved on and subsequently the car went with him. Fast forward three years, I'm seventeen stocking shelves in an Albertsons and needing a ride. I've got some money in the bank and am routinely searching the Sunday classifieds for my dream car. Eventually, I come across an ad listing a 69 Mustang Mach 1 for $1,100. I showed dad the ad, called the owner and hopped in the old Country Squire Station wagoner for a cruise across town to take a look. As we rounded the corner to the owner's house I could see the car in the driveway and noted that it was the same color as the car that I remembered at the mall a few years back. As we pulled up into the driveway, I realized, "that is the car that was at the mall!". I was freaking out and my dad was telling me to maintain some composure as he had plans to haggle with the guy. After the generous nine-hundred dollar offer was declined, I blew it by screaming, "It's my money, just give him the $1100". Again, that was 1977 and I've had the car ever since.

Over the past several years I've been watching many of you and your builds come to fruition here and you have been such an inspiration to me. Many of you don't know it, but I've learned so much from so many of you and as such I hope you'll join with me here as I go through my very own resto. I've been looking forward to this for a very long time.

Scanning Craigs list a couple of nights ago i came across an ad for a 70 Grande for $300
It was late so i emailed the guy and told him i would take it .Next morning i called him and made an appointment to pick it up .I couldn't believe it ,it was an actual Grande .Wood grain deluxe interior and all ,and the wood grain panels are in very good shape .The body is  in good shape but the roof is toast .Both sport mirrors were there ,all the glass and the trim in good shape .Doors are fantastic ...i needed those , they are still white inside and not a speck of rot .They have a couple spots of bondo that i think cover up chips because there is no ding from the inside and they sanded through the paint and has a slight surface rust in places .The sucker has Air ! I was really happy to find it was disk brakes and it has a 3 :07 8 inch posie .The trunk lid is perfect  and so are the end caps ,except for some sanded through paint
Lots of parts in this thing .some one had done some work ...not the best ,but they installed a new 1 1/8 inch sway bar .They are still out there so keep looking .

Looking for a little help if someone with an original hood latch bracket could give a picture of one as I can't seem to find a good pic of one. As you can see someone hacked/modified this one.  I'm hoping that I can save this one. Also curious how it is painted. Hard to see with this pic but the bracket appears to have had a black primer then had over spray of color on the bottom half and then hand painted black. The grille bracket that mounts on it has been totally covered in red oxide primer, then over spray of color on the lower half and then hand painted black.

I'm in the process of rebuilding my car, and am adding Borgeson power steering. What do I need to do in order to ditch the rag joint and add a steering ujoint instead? I know I can get a ujoint that bolts to the box itself, but what do I need to do to my column? It looks like the shaft coming out has the rag joint mount welded. Cut it off, replace the lower shaft with something else? I have searched but can't find a specific answer. Thanks.

I am finally replaced my grant steering wheel with my original restored version.

In the center of the turn signal switch is a plastic circle with a spring pin. It is right around the steering column shaft. It will spin freely. (A) is it supposed to and (B) should it be clocked to a certain position.

Zefevinee reacted to Vicfreg in '70 Mustang Kick Panel Speakers
Thought I would post one of my side-projects for my 1970 Convertible.  I want to put speakers in the front kick panels.  The pictures below show my steps.  My rationale was that I have a Convertible and it is an A/C car, and the 1970s have the flow through ventilation grills in the door sill.  So.....I will have plenty of fresh air, but need some tunes.    I will be running a Boss power amp, rear speakers and subwoofers off of my Boss DIN 1 flatscreen head unit.  I installed Kicker 5-1/4", 40CS54 Speakers.   The "CS" series are low profile, and fit nicely.

First step was to get an extra set of kick panels.....just in case I want to return to original. Next, was to get some MDF from Lowes, and make a template the same shape as the vent box, and also, the hole for the speakers. Cut the MDF shape and speaker hole, and painted it black Cut the cable going to the vent door, and secured the door with a sheet metal screw Sprayed undercoating on the outside of the vent door, and the area where it seals to the air box Added dynamat on the inside and outside of the vent box Put the BoomMat speaker baffles inside the vent box.  Routed the speaker wires through the BoomMat and through a hole in the airbox, sealed with RTV Mounted the speakers to the MDF, and the MDF to the airbox Took new kickpanels and used an X-Acto knife to carefully trim the vent louvers out of the kickpanel Looked forever on EBay and Amazon to find speaker grills that I liked and were the right diameter, and could be mounted.  They have an inside "ring" that gets screwed to the MDF, and the grill is press fit on that ring Pictures below.  Not sure how it will sound, but will be fun to find out!

Zefevinee reacted to Ridge Runner in When you have way to many projects...What do you do ?
Why you start another project of course !
Another Shelby replica .Started on the back end first ,the trunk lid and end caps are bolted on .

I replaced the lower rear window panel some time ago and i noticed a low spot in the middle of the panel at the trunk lid .I was going to use my porta power to raise the center ,it's only a bit less than 1/8 inch .Well ,the porta power sprayed oil all over the place so it looks like i need a new one first . I had to remove the rotisserie rear mounts and trim them so the tail panel would go in place ,while the car was on it ,kind of scary but it is done .

The side scoops are bolted on ,just a little sanding to pull them tight to the body and they will fit great .
going to have to do a couple of door skins i think ..depends on what i find when i strip them ,before i fit the front end .I still have to make the front fenders .

I'm putting together my 351 W based stroker. It is a 393, and was built on a block that was already .030 over. So, at around .040, I am concerned with it running hot. I have a friend with a similar set up that is running a 160 deg Thermostat. That seems too low. I want to run a 190 deg, but at that temperature, it won't be full open until 210 deg
I am going to use a champion 4 row radiator with 2 - 12" fans, controlled by a Derale PWM box. I have A/C. I have an Edelbrick Victor high flow water pump.
    Any recommendations would be appreciated.
I have not purchased the radiator yet.

Getting very close to painting my mustang. Going with gulfstream aqua as this is the original colour. So i have a couple of choices with the stripes. Black with gold or gold with white. Can the stripe colour be found on the build sheet. My build sheet is in pretty poor condition , hard to make out some info.
Any advice on what colour stripes i should go with.

Hello and welcome to me, I am a proud owner of a 1969 Mustang Sports roof that has been modified from stock. I had a 69 Mustang while I was in high school and kept and worked on it for 10 yrs (was a decent car). However, the new wife and new kids coming along, plus the stoppage of selling leaded premium 110 octane fuel in California (where I was stationed at the time) caused me to sell my baby. Now years later with my last child leaving the nest I have another 69 in the Garage! I spent more money on this one but most of the heavy lifting was already completed when I bought it. Some of the things I have done to the car in the last 12 mo are.

Complete engine rebuild of the 351W. Boar was punched out .20 over, new pistons, polished crank, Balanced, Edelbrock RPM top end kit complete with Cam, heads, rockers, etc...

Uni Steer power rack and pinion steering system installed

15" stock magnum looking rims (wider in the rear) with the ole BF Goodrich TA's.

Going for the Mach 1 look a like so added stripes painted hood and put window louvers, gas cap, etc.

Wilwood power disc brakes front and rear.

    Aftermarket gauges and gauge package.

    Aftermarket Air Conditioning

I have done more but you get the idea. Here are the future mods I am currently gathering parts for.

Switching the FMX for a beefed up T5z from Ford Racing.

Interior front seats upgrade with new aftermarket seats, my car did not have the fold down seat I plan on correcting that.

    Killer stereo system/ alarm

Here are some pics of the car, I hesitate to show the "before" pics as the car looks very good and I am sure I will get some grief for messing with it, but please consider that my upgrades are still under construction and when I am done and post side by side pics the criticism will be better appreciated.
    lol
