mandyse1 reacted to Bump69 in Reverse eye tire size
I have a 69 fastback with 1 inch lowering springs and the Shelby drop up front and 5 leaf reverse eyes out back. I currently run 215/40r17s up front and 275/35r18 drag radials out back with a 5.5 backspace and rolled lips, 40 series would fit. The car has a built 466 in it and traction is a joke so I'm thinking I want to go 15s with skinnys up front and as much meat as I can get out back. Anyone know what might fit with the stance of my car? Was thinking like a 15x9 or 15x10 in the rear but not to sure on offsets, I would love to get a 275/60r15 under it but don't know if I can make it work with the reverse eyes. As for the skinnys I have no idea on that.

Hello all after being here for over 7 years & seeing other builds I figured it is time for me to start one on my 69 Coupe. I aquired the 69 Coupe back in 2001, & when I aquired the car it was being used as a parts car stripped of almost anything useable. It was missing both doors, the interior except for the dash, the engine & the trans were long gone, & was missing one fender. After 4 moves & one failed business venture I am back working on the 69 Coupe. The Coupe was originally equipped with a 302, auto, 8" 2.79 rear, standard black interior, painted meadowlark yellow, & built in Metuchen, NJ on Nov 26th, 1968. My plans for the car are to make it a restomod, 331 stroker, 5 spd trans, 9" rear with 3.70 gears, painted green with black GT side stripes & a 1970 Mach-1 hood stripe with the Mach-1 hood scoop, front & rear spoilers. Black standard interior with 1970 Mustang high back buckets, center console & Mach-1 r/s dash panel with clock. As far as wheels & tires the wheels I had on my first Mustang were Ansen sprint slotted wheels & I want those or the 68/69 GT wheels with BFG T/A radials 235/60-15's. The wiring will be completely redone using an American auto wire kit for the 69 Mustang. I will get some pics put on soon.
    Mike.

I thought this was a fun build.  I like the paint but think I'd personally swap the wheels out.  The one thing I'm trying to wrap my head around is the math.  They said they spent 40k on the car and parts (seems low) and 310 hours on the build.  It sold for 56.5k.  Now if you were paying straight rates at shop that is at least 20k in man hours probably closer to 25k.  Even if you own the business and pay 1/2 that, it doesn't seem like a lot of profit.  But most the time was volunteer time I think.  Not that I'm knocking them building the car I just always have a laugh at the prices and profits they show on reality shows.

mandyse1 reacted to indianfiremach in '70 Grabber Orange Mach 1 Resto
Hello all, I wanted to re-introduce myself now that I'm back with a new project. Last month I picked up a 1970 Mach 1 that was a little rough, but looked like it had an interesting history. It's a Grabber Orange 'DSO 89' car, loaded with options including shaker hood, tach, tilt, am/fm, deluxe seat belts, fold-down, AC, PS, PDB, intermittent wipers, convenience group, bumper guards, and a few others. The car was ordered new by a Ford executive, and delivered to Ford Headquarters. The car itself has been sitting untouched for 20 years waiting for a new owner to rescue it. The car's pretty straight, but still needs a lot of work and parts. I'm going for an 'as-delivered' look, but will stop short of concourse, and I may even put a T5 in there since I'm partial to manual shift cars. Thanks for reading my long post, I'll try and keep the thread updated as I go.

Here's some photos of the car:

I have an Auto Meter electric water temp gauge unit along with an electric Spal radiator fan. Any reason why I can't use one sending unit for both the oil gauge and fan relay? Ya I know, rookie question. But I got the good looks and my brothers got the brains. So I got that going for me, which is nice.

Edit: Oil gauge is in error, it's the water temp gauge I'm talking about.

For over a year I converter to the on-wire alternator and been letting the 3 wires that plug into the voltage regulator hang.

What can I do to clean things up, I show the car and it looks silly just hanging there.

Could I cut the 3 wire connector off, tape the ends and hide it within the bulk wire next to it.

Would cutting those wires off cause an electrical problem.

    History lesson.

Back in 1969, I was a tike of 9 years old sitting in Pop's puke green 66 notch back at a local Dairy Queen.. Up pulls a blue 69 Mach 1 and I was immediately in love! Could think of nothing else...

Eight years pass... for graduation.. we find a one owner red 2 barrel Windsor FMX slushbox Mach.. I was in love... I cherished this car.. bumps, bruises, scraps and all.. waxed weekly.. never driven in rain... she was my Baby Girl..

    Collage payments...

Pick up a 2006 GT as a daily.. wonderful car.. beat the snot out of her to this day... she asks for more... always performing.. but don't have the gravitas of the Mach..

Years.. Years.. Years... She sits in waiting.. covered... dusty.. sad...

Payments are done... wife's car paid for.. collage paid for.. what's this??? what's this???

We're saving money for a pole barn... a pole barn where she can live again.. be reborn...

Torn... was worried about originality.. friend asked if I'd ever sell her.. I was like NO EFFIN WAY.. he said... "build it as you want it!"..

So that's where I'm at.. probably 2 years away for enough money to have the barn build and cash for resto...

mandyse1 reacted to Topless69GT in FiTech Go EFI question
So my FiTech Go EFI arrived today. Well at least the fuel command center did. Still waiting on the actual EFI unit. My question relates to the vent line from the fuel command center back to the tank. It states the fuel tank needs to be vented and a vent return line needs to be installed back to the tank. What have you seen done to run a return line back to a stock style tank. Also is the stock tank considered vented? I can't imagine that pressure would build up in the stock style tank. I would think the stock style pop open gas cap would not seal that well and pressure build up would not be an issue.

mandyse1 reacted to MN69Grande in Rant Alert - Shop prices for basic work
Ok I'm really just writing this post to commiserate.  I had my wife take her Daily into a shop we've used for years to get estimates on the 100,000 and 120,000 service for our Honda.  I'll admit we change the oil on a regular basis but are mostly late on the rest of the scheduled maintenance.  But I fear the timing belt going out and killing the motor (nice little 3.0 V6).

So they said we should do the water pump at the same time as the timing belt.  Ok no biggie.  The rate was what I expected.

But then they got to the Brakes, Plugs, and S-Belt.
Rear Pads and Rotors more then $400
    Spark Plugs $350
    S-Belt $120

So about $900 for basic maintenance stuff.  As much as the Timing Belt.

I did what I think most of you guys would do and went to NAPA.  Total parts in hand About $170.
The breaks took me 2 hours because I didn't know how to use a certain tool.  I expect a real mechanic could do it in 1.
I'll do the other 2 jobs this weekend but expect to spend maybe an hour to complete them.

Can someone explain to me what I would have gotten for another $700 at the shop?  Even if I double the cost of the parts that's more than $500 in labor for what should be 3 hours of work.

    END RANT

I dislike the shiny, wet look and would like to to find a cleaner that leaves the tire looking like the tire did when it was new. Any suggestions? And no, I have not tried any cleaners as I am unsure which one will suit my need.  Thanks.   Dave R.

Has anyone ordered this from Marti? I randomly was on their website a few weeks ago and they are now selling original dealer invoices--you have to provide documentation that you own the car.

I got mine over the weekend and since my car was bought new by my Aunt, no surprise on dealer location. It appears that it was originally slated for a dealership closer to my Aunt's house but was sold to another dealer a little further away (she bought it off the lot).

It appears to have a stamp from where it was 'checked out of the factory at the gate'. The actual dealer cost of the car and options some other stuff....pretty interesting.

Has anyone else gotten one of these and know what some of the codes, etc stand for?

mandyse1 reacted to Vicfreg in 1970 Convertible Restoration
Hi.  New member here.   A fellow forum member told me about this site, so I will be posting my project details here over the next months (years).

My car is a "F" code 1970 convertible, originally a auto/AC car with power top.   2 years ago, I obtained the car from a storage building in Las Vegas, from a friend who had an older family member who had give up on the project.

I loaded the car into a POD, and transported it back home to North Carolina.   Over the past 2 years, I have been sorting and refinishing parts, and this week, had my friend at LatoRacing (forum member) come out and get the car to sort out the sheet metal work that needs to be done.

I will post some pics of the find, the transport, and progress since I obtained the car, and once caught up with that, will have LatoRacing post pictures of the progress.

Current plan is to build a Mach I style convertible, with a 393 stroker, C-6, 4 link rear, and rack and pinion/coil over front end.   Engine, trans, and interior are done and ready to be installed.

Look forward to documenting my project.

    Regards,

    Vic
