stephanienl69 reacted to rittenrotton in A/c
So my a/c seems to work great on 70 degree days but recently here in NY its been 87 and very humid and I'm finding that my a/c seems to not work so well with these recent temps (especially on a sunny day). I have a 70 coupe with a ford racing 302, with a flex fan and classic auto air. To just keep the car a little cool, I have to keep the a/c on high even when driving on a highway. I am just wondering, is wrong to think that aftermarket a/c kits would work as well as modern a/c in a newer car?

stephanienl69 reacted to Philitup in Brake issue, maybe proportioning valve
Hey guys I had a soft pedal so I thought that the brake fluid might have been low. About 6 months ago a mechanic did the rear shoes and wheel cylinders for me, but to further inspection he didn't bleed the brakes because when I opened the master cylinder cap the fluid was black. I suctioned out the fluid and added new in. I went to bleed out the front calipers and the bleeder screw snapped. I went and picked up two new calipers and bled them until there was no air just fluid. The pedal was stiff in the car. As soon as I turned on the car the pedal went to the floor and lost all its pressure. Is this due to my proportioning valve? Or is there possibly air in the rear lines that I need to get out and redo the front? I'm going to try bleeding all of them tomorrow this time with the car running starting from the furthest to the closest but I wonder if I will be wasting my time. And help I would appreciate and if it is the PV and tips on removing and installing a new one. Thanks

Very much enjoying your project, hopefully giving me inspiration to get to work on mine again after the winter break.
I'm sure you'll enjoy your 5 speed conversion, nothing like dropping it into 5th at cruising speed and seeing the rpm's drop to a nice relaxing level.

Looking to touch up the top of the Radiator and the support bracket that straddles the rad cap.
Are they both the same color, would it be gloss black or what?
Is the Radiator support the same color as the Radiator.

stephanienl69 reacted to Vicfreg in 1970 Convertible Restoration
Hi. New member here. A fellow forum member told me about this site, so I will be posting my project details here over the next months (years).
My car is a "F" code 1970 convertible, originally a auto/AC car with power top. 2 years ago, I obtained the car from a storage building in Las Vegas, from a friend who had an older family member who had give up on the project.
I loaded the car into a POD, and transported it back home to North Carolina. Over the past 2 years, I have been sorting and refinishing parts, and this week, had my friend at LatoRacing (forum member) come out and get the car to sort out the sheet metal work that needs to be done.
I will post some pics of the find, the transport, and progress since I obtained the car, and once caught up with that, will have LatoRacing post pictures of the progress.
Current plan is to build a Mach I style convertible, with a 393 stroker, C-6, 4 link rear, and rack and pinion/coil over front end. Engine, trans, and interior are done and ready to be installed.
Look forward to documenting my project.
Regards,
Vic

stephanienl69 reacted to Ridge Runner in 69 -Shelby style
First of all ,Hello.I am new to the site and it will take me a bit to figure things out .
My project is a 1969 M code Mach 1 ,originally a 351 4V ,4 speed .
Plans are to do a Shelby type build ,but not a copy . The body itself is in great condition with no rust and it only had one small dent ...that i made myself :whistling: Don't worry it was very small. The 351 will go back in along with the 4 speed ,i will post pics as i go ,soon as i figure out how .
Edit ... hope this does it .

stephanienl69 reacted to Dave R. in Nuxhall Miracle Fields Benefit show
Before his death, the late Cincinnati Red Joe Nuxhall conceived the Miracle Fields project.. His son Kim along with numerous volunteers and corporate sponsors finished the project. These baseball fields are specially designed and constructed to provide a place for handicapped kids and adults to play baseball. This benefit show is a primary source of funding to allow the fields to operate. Last years show drew over 200 cars under a crystal blue sky. The show flyer is attached.
Fairfield, Ohio is in southwestern Ohio about 20 minutes north of Cincinnati. Easy access from I-275. Dave R.
The attachment did not come thru. I'll try again.

i had posted this on another forum (non-mustang) a few weeks ago and it seemed only appropriate that it should really exist on a 69 mustang forum...
here is a summary of what has been completed over the course of the last 1.5 years....
i had just finished making the rotisserie and moved the car off the temporary dolly. i was pretty nervous the first time i flipped this car around!
after a lot of structural metal work, i media blasted the car
made my own set of subframe connectors. nothing on the market was what i wanted.
replaced more sheetmetal. both sides, outer wheelhouses, trunk floors, quarter panels, not to mention all the patch panels...
finished fitting the doors, trunk lid, quarter extensions, valance. then glazing, sealing and fill priming...
i've been working on mocking up the engine, transmission, cooling, etc. TFS high ports, scattershield and a victor junior have created a challenge. finally finished up the clutch linkage, modifying the headers (had to completely relocate two tubes. i've sliced up the shaker and have finally have a legitimate plan to fit it under the hood and retain the vacuum system and external appearance. it's about 1/2" high in the picture.

stephanienl69 reacted to bryonbush in borgeson vs rebuilt box
I'm planning on either rebuilding my steering box or going with the Borgeson unit. My biggest concern of going with a new box is that I will still have the same issues of a sloppy steering wheel. I currently have power steering in the car and I like the idea that I can use my current pump with the Borgeson unit. I've read lots of the threads with a Borgeson units and they have good reviews but I'm curious to hear from those who have had them in their car for a while. I'm also curious to hear from the guys who bought a steering box from Choko stand and if theirs any play in the steering after the new unit.

stephanienl69 reacted to MN69Grande in Rant Alert - Shop prices for basic work
Ok I'm really just writing this post to commiserate. I had my wife take her Daily into a shop we've used for years to get estimates on the 100,000 and 120,000 service for our Honda. I'll admit we change the oil on a regular basis but are mostly late on the rest of the scheduled maintenance. But I fear the timing belt going out and killing the motor (nice little 3.0 V6).
So they said we should do the water pump at the same time as the timing belt. Ok no biggie. The rate was what I expected.
But then they got to the Brakes, Plugs, and S-Belt.
Rear Pads and Rotors more then $400
Spark Plugs $350
S-Belt $120
So about $900 for basic maintenance stuff. As much as the Timing Belt.
I did what I think most of you guys would do and went to NAPA. Total parts in hand About $170.
The breaks took me 2 hours because I didn't know how to use a certain tool. I expect a real mechanic could do it in 1.
I'll do the other 2 jobs this weekend but expect to spend maybe an hour to complete them.
Can someone explain to me what I would have gotten for another $700 at the shop? Even if I double the cost of the parts that's more than $500 in labor for what should be 3 hours of work.
END RANT

stephanienl69 reacted to MN69Grande in Wrecks To Riches
I thought this was a fun build. I like the paint but think I'd personally swap the wheels out. The one thing I'm trying to wrap my head around is the math. They said they spent 40k on the car and parts (seems low) and 310 hours on the build. It sold for 56.5k. Now if you were paying straight rates at shop that is at least 20k in man hours probably closer to 25k. Even if you own the business and pay 1/2 that, it doesn't seem like a lot of profit. But most the time was volunteer time I think. Not that I'm knocking them building the car I just always have a laugh at the prices and profits they show on reality shows.

stephanienl69 reacted to JustAnOl'69 in Buiding Up That '69 Beater
Well, here's the car and here's the story:
1969 Mustang Grande, 351w, FMX, ~7 colors
After combing through Craigslist for over a year, and saving my pennies for 2 more, I was able to buy this car off a freind of my dad's back in October of 2014. It came from a storage unit where it sat after being given up on for a short while, with another storage unit of random parts, the original 351w, a ligtly built 351w in the car, a rod knock, and another 351w long block ready to swap in. It was driving as is and, after a tune up and fresh fluids, survived another 3-ish months of high school junior hot rodding with that engine knocking away until we swapped it out. The windows rattled loudly, the 1-3/4" exhaust was louder, and it was awesome.

History lesson.
Back in 1969, I was a tike of 9 years old sitting in Pop's puke green 66 notch back at a local Dairy Queen.. Up pulls a blue 69 Mach 1 and I was immediately in love! Could think of nothing else...
Eight years pass... for graduation.. we find a one owner red 2 barrel Windsor FMX slushbox Mach.. I was in love... I cherished this car.. bumps, bruises, scraps and all.. waxed weekly.. never driven in rain... she was my Baby Girl..
Life gets in the way..
Meet my True Love.. get married.. last plate expired 1983... three kids.. mortgage.. responsibility... T ball... soccer... years... decades... all pass..
Gray hair.. aches.. pains... pot belly...

Pick up a 2006 GT as a daily.. wonderful car.. beat the snot out of her to this day... she asks for more... always performing.. but don't have the gravitas of the Mach..
Years.. Years.. Years... She sits in waiting.. covered... dusty.. sad...
Payments are done... wife's car paid for.. collage paid for.. what's this??? what's this???
We're saving money for a pole barn... a pole barn where she can live again.. be reborn...
Torn... was worried about originality.. friend asked if I'd ever sell her.. I was like NO EFFIN WAY.. he said... "build it as you want it!"..
So that's where I'm at.. probably 2 years away for enough money to have the barn build and cash for resto...
