I'd be happy to contribute if that would solve the problem.

MAC390 reacted to bigmal in Fuel, Oil and Temp Gauges not working again...ideas?
Drove the stang to the shops today and planned on trouble shooting the gauges when I got home. Got in the car to drive home and they are working again.
I have the take the dash out to sort out the GPS tracker that has an issue so I will change the CVR while it's out. I have a spare so worth a try.
I love intermittent faults. they're the best!

MAC390 reacted to bigmal in Converting my 69 Mach 1 to Right Hand Drive - Australia
Though I'd share the Monte Carlo Bar I made. I thought the 'off the shelf' ones looked a little flimsy. I had some spare 1" pipe and some brackets of my old boat (cavitation plate adjustment). Worked out pretty well. I can screw the end fitting out to take the load off the Export Brace. Makes fitting that pretty easy now.

looks like he had fuel injection. ill bet the fuel pump kept going after the crash and he probably didnt have an inertia switch.

Well done mate, glad the is sorted out , now drive the ass off it.

MAC390 reacted to bigmal in Chasing a Vibration - Flex Plate?
Well I finished my rebuild and ran it today for the first time.
I ended up installing a new correct flex plate which is a different bolt spacing to the original and the torque converter wouldn't fit. As this is the correct flex plate I bought a new torque converter which is substantially larger and 2500rpm stall. Engine was rebuild +.020 with 2V heads (were 4V) and some other bibs and bobs. Spent way more than I wanted to.
……………….It runs like a top. No vibration and more power. I also installed an electric fuel pump and my starting problems are gone.
Definitely a worthwhile venture. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I wish I could pinpoint exactly what was the cause of the vibration but very happy it's gone.

I think the meaning of post #24 is that the method applied is wrong. As in adding SFCs will do nothing for radiator support flexibility. I can very well believe that. But it will do a lot for the chassis. And the method applied misses that. The setup is the problem. The frame is supported by 3 jack stands. The whole of the chassis isn't available for flexing because it is locked in place. He is just measuring flex in the front frame rail, not the whole unibody. When the shock towers and Monte Carlo bar was in place, that load was spread across a larger area. When removed, and the same force applied will show more flex because the area it is applied to is less (limited).
The 25% torsional stiffness credited to the MC bar isn't because the MC bar is so immensely strong. It's just a piece of steel. It is because the MC Bar allows the frame rails to be connected to a larger area.
He should have put the car on it's suspension, but with strut rods instead of shock absorbers and springs. That way, the frame itself would not be supported at any given point, and free to flex all the way from front to back.

MAC390 reacted to RPM in Question for RPM
Still awaiting word from my bud, who's waiting on a dealer rep to call. He did say that Haddad bought it in 1973, unknown if Urner had the Dodge dealership in addition to the Chrysler Plymouth store.
My bud was a bit fired up, and I know he'll get back. He drove a 70 Charger in the mid 70's, and said to me, maybe it's mine! Ya, no.

Dude, I'll be 63 in a few months, and I've had more than a couple of concussions. I can't remember where my car keys are. And I lived across the street from the dealership in 1979! And had them do some body work on my pickup. Sheesh.
My neighbor worked for them back in the day, but he's at the doctor. When he calls me back I'll let you know.

Well, after having the trans in and out numerous times , i rebuilt the trans and had a new converter made as when we opened the old one it was ready to self destruct.
I am going to put it in this weekend, this is my Christmas present to me. If it s#$ts itself again, it's top loader time, i am really over it.!!!!!!!!!!!
Crap job done by the previous trans shop.
Converter is bullet proof. Will handle plenty.
