bigmal reacted to MAC390 in Mach 1 resto in Australia
That would be great, looking forward to you guys coming up our way.
Wired up the cooling fan , msd ignition, electric fuel pump and mini starter.
All works including the neutral start switch , now the instrument panel and dash gauges.
All the interior lights work and the engine cranks and has spark.
Going to fire her up on the weekend, getting so close now , i am really pleased.

I shaped a scrap piece of 1/4" plate and opened my vice up to about 3/8". Laid the corner on top of the open vice jaws and used the 1/4" plate as a forming tool. Hammered until it was deep enough and straightened it out by hand. Nothing fancy. The entire corner replacement took about two hours, start to finish.

bigmal reacted to danno in Mike65's 69 Coupe build
Hey, nice steering wheel in that! I have been following you all along on this. Good luck on the wires, it looks bad, but maybe it is easier than it looks. I am big on the factory wires.
I have offered this to others who put so much work into these cars. If you want an MP3 input on your radio, I will do it for free. I feel it is a small part that I can contribute to your project. If you use the factory radio from the 1970's like I saw in the photos, I can convert it to have a MP3 input, if you want. I can do it now or later. No cost just ship it to me, and i will modify it and ship it back to you. I just want to show my appreciation for all the work you are putting into this.
Great job on it. I cannot imagine the effort. One of these years I will have the time to tackle a project like this.

bigmal reacted to JayEstes in Wheel Arch Moulds
I know my coupe didn't come with them originally, but I really like the look of them. I think the trim option also had a rocker moulding which I didn't not include because I put on a GT stripe. It's not original for me, but I really like the looks.

I'm always up for the beers! But I can be certain that once they start, nothing else productive will commence. haha

It has definitely worked at keeping my hands and mind busy.
Ha, that's funny. My wife gives me a look of confusion. I was trying to explain the jig to her, she listened but must have thought I was from a different planet.

Terrific stuff, Mal!
It would have been a great shake down for her.
None of my LHD cars have said anything as such on the rego papers either.

bigmal got a reaction from TinMan in Converting my 69 Mach 1 to Right Hand Drive - Australia
Took it to Canberra on Friday for the Engineers final sign off. This is the first time it's been over 60kmph or further then the local shops. I did 600ks (370m) and it went great. (10mpg or 17L/100kms). Mind you I did have a headache from the exhaust drone and the constant ticking of the speedo cable which developed a glitch.
The Engineer was happy with everything so it's of to submit the paperwork to the Motor Registry
I even had some rain to check out the wipers and to my surprise they worked as they should.

No far now, just got to wire up the fuel pump and the ignition electrical, start it then the exhaust system.
The interior needs a couple of bits and the console needs parts which are expensive.

Thanks, Mal. I appreciate it.
There's no body work going into the truck other than fitting it to the chassis and decking it out. It'll be left just as it is, original, rusty and worn out looking. I'm even hoping I can leave all the rust holes in the fenders.

bigmal reacted to Bob & Sue in Battery Maintenance
Good reason to go with a quality charger with float mode. Our boats AC Converter/Charger had heat sensors on all the batteries making it almost impossible to fry a cell it would either go into float mode or shut that bank off. I left it plugged into shore power for 5 years without any failures, very seldom added water maybe 2 oz per battery a year.
The Schumachers auto line have all that built in with their upper range charge they are a quality brand.
I don't like buying from Schumacher after match racing Don for years. That's the same Schumacher that has a field of 3-4 Top Fuel Dragsters & Funny Cars DSR.
