This week I got the new gas tank installed with new fuel sender, new fuel spout, and new rubber connector hose.  Changed the oil and installed a new fan only to find my old shroud is too small so might have to go backwards to the flex fan again.

Here is an old picture from 2014 when the old tank came out and yesterday with the new tank going back in.  The oldest one is too tall for the trunk now.

Yep.  Trunk monkeys.  The girls scraped out a lot of seam sealer under the old tank and my youngest daughter instalked all the fasteners for the new tank.  It's better than me bending over and they love it.

Oh and even better is the neighbor 15 year old who studies how cars work for fun comes over to help all the time.  He was there for the first start and is a constant motivator to get things done.  He likes old cameros but we won't hold that against him. :)
Another friend with a 65 mustang has also been a huge help.  It's great bonding over combustion engines.

Dude, what great pictures of the kids in the trunk. That is really priceless.   Also, the first time start video is awesome!.   I am surprised you all did not break out some of that great local Jester King beer to celebrate!
I am actually going to be restoring a 1966 Mustang for my daughter (joint project) who is now in her 30's, because of a picture I took of her on the hood of the 1966 GT I owned when she was a child.   I am sure your children will always remember these times with Dad in the garage with the Mustang.  I will find the picture and post it.
I noted Ridge's comment about the trunk monkeys. That is a very clever reference to what is probably the greatest set of car commercials ever.   I will post a link on the "garage" forum of this site, as I don't want to post that on TexasEd's site.

Put a piece of cardboard between the radiator and water pump before you re-install the fan and bolts.  It will save the radiator fins from getting destroyed while you fiddle with getting the fan bolts installed.  Brian

Here is the recommended setup for a fan and shroud. The fan should fit with 50% of the fan in the shroud.

I have scraped up my knuckles more than once installing the fan to the water pump with the shroud in place. You have to put the bolts on the fan, any spacers on the bolts and slip it carefully between the pump and the radiator. Then using an open end or ratchet wrench, tighten the bolts.

Finish setting timing and idle switch to electronic points and new coil (pertronix and flamethrower) install gas tank fix passenger side low beam light (might replace all the headlight trim rings) re-install grille lower car and tighten suspension components get an alignment Insure, inspect, register and drive.

I've made a lot of progress in the last month.  My neighbor's 13 year old son helped me install the water pump, put the fan back on, install the valve covers, then the distributor.
Today a friend with a 65 came over and helped me sort out the ignition systems, wiring harnesses and we installed the rebuilt carb, new battery, rotor, and dist cap.  When we tried to crank the starter we got nothing.  we tried to bypass the solenoid but still nothing so I pulled the starter and went to get it checked at the auto parts store.  It was good so I bought new starter cable and solenoid.  Both were apparently bad as the cable must have grounded out and the old solenoid did not work with the new cable.
After installing both it was cranked for the first time in 4+ years.
The plan is to focus on fuel next weekend, tune the carb and set the timing.  After we get it running I'll install the pertronix and flamethrower coil.

Finally made a package tray from the mold ,i have had the mold for 4 years now. Thing was a pain in the butt to get out because it has 3 finished edges ,i only have to cut out the bottom . They should be a little easier to pop out now ,the first piece is always the hardest. This one is going in a 69 and will be headed to the next SEMA

I think the pulley mounts to the large bracket where the bolt is.  Best pictures I can find on other cars have a different bracket and I think it's because my car was an aftermarket dealer installed AC systemy.

My older photo bucket pics are corrupted so I can't access them to see how this was before I pulled them off.

Which ones?  I still have my 14" rims and I've been debating getting 17" wheels or just running with inexpensive 14" tires until I have more money saved.

This is the story of my reunion with my first car I had when I was 15 and was built in the year I was born. Some of this might be on the forum in other threads but I wanted to have a single thread to cover the story from the beginning.

In the late 1970's the original owner, who was in his late 60's, lived across the street from me in San Antonio. I was in elementary school and I used to help him wash it on the weekends. My parents divorced before I got to 6th grade but my dad stayed in the old house and my brothers and I came to visit on the weekends. I still helped the guy with his car when he needed it and I think this involvement played a part in what was to happen later. My stepfather was in the Air Force and we moved overseas to Scotland before High School.

I was planning to move back to Texas for sophomore year due to teacher strikes when my dad came to visit in Scotland. I was 15 and would be 16 when school started so we talked about taking driver's ed and he asked what kind of car I would like to drive when I got back. I said, "One like the Mustang our neighbor has." When I got back I found out my dad had already bought it. The car was my dad's and I just got to drive it but I did all the work on it because my dad did not have patience or very much mechanical ability.

I drove it through most of high school except 11th grade when I went back to Scotland and during the summers in college. I did not want to take it to school. My dad sold it to my brother in 2005 and towed it out of Mississippi before Hurricane Katrina hit. I had just gotten married and was in the process of buying a new house at the time. It sat in my brother's driveway in Virginia with no protection except a car cover for 6 years. One day I was watching a show with my wife and pointed out that I had a 69 Mustang in high school, she said maybe you can get another one some day. I told her maybe I could get the same one, and she raised her eyebrow.

I worked out the financial deal with my brother and got in on the truck to haul it back to Texas right around my birthday.

It is a 1969 Mustang Fastback that is almost original. It's 302 2bbl. The only mods are that it has dual exhaust on the original manifolds, the interior was replaced around 1985. It has a dealer installed Mark IV Custom AC system that goes under the dash and power steering as the main options.

Here is the car in 1986:
