Guillaume69 150 Report post Posted August 22, 2015 Well, we won't know until the cars come out of the container. A friend of mine asked me the other day if I was sure they had not loaded it upside down... Smart @ss!

Guillaume69 150 Report post Posted September 2, 2015 Went to my first cruise last week-end: around 300 miles with lots of mountain driving and a couple hours on the interstate to go there and back. Car loved it, worked awesome, and really made me a proud owner! 1 Ridge Runner reacted to this

Midlife 814 Report post Posted September 3, 2015 Having any trouble speaking French on a daily basis? *G*
Guillaume69 150 Report post Posted September 3, 2015 Yep, that happened a couple times already. It's very embarrassing, you know, when you start speaking to people in a shop using the wrong language... They look at you like you are crazy or something. It usually happens when you are distracted or tired. I also seem to have forgotten some words. I know how to say something in English but struggle to find the French word for it. Especially with car and mechanics related stuff. But make no mistake: if that's the only price to pay for having spent almost 4 years in a foreign country, then I don't mind at all. In comparison, the cultural benefits are just... incredible! 1 Footcutter11 reacted to this
Guillaume69 150 Report post Posted September 17, 2015 So, new home, new stories... First, I finally was able to plug in my new LED lights from Vintage LEDs. Well, what a bliss! These things are absolutely awesome. I wonder why I waited so long to make that mod. Almost plug'n'play. Just swap the flasher and turn indicator modules, and you're good to go! Guillaume69 150 Report post Posted September 17, 2015 Then, one evening, after stopping at a gas station to top up before driving back home, impossible to start the engine. Zero. Sounded like a dead battery or something (solenoid clicking, starter dead), but I was a little skeptical since it's a brand new optima red top. Decided to jump start the car with my cables (lucky my friend was with me in his 68 fastback), but nothing happened either. We finally pushed it and it started fine in 3rd (it has a toploader). Once back home, I decided to check the starter first and found out its internals were completely grenaded... I did not hear a thing, and still haven't got a clue about what could have happened. It is an original starter but may be not to this car as part number starts with C7xxx). Anyways, it was old. Replacement is on it's way already (Powermasters OE style) and hopefully, that should fix the issue. G 1 Edwandtags reacted to this
stangnet33 88 Report post Posted September 17, 2015 Wonder if the starter stayed engaged while the engine was running. Other than that, good to see all is well. Nice scenic pic, looks beautiful there ! 1 JayEstes reacted to this
Guillaume69 150 Report post Posted October 4, 2015 Put my new starter in yesterday. It really cranks the engine nicely. Super happy! 1 SWPruett reacted to this

RPM 1,190 Report post Posted October 5, 2015 Holy crap! I've not seen a started do that. And yet another reason to use a manual tranny.
Guillaume69 150 Report post Posted October 31, 2015 Today, in addition to being Halloween, was an incredibly beautiful fall day in France. Amazing light which allowed a few nice pics. For those who like wine, we live in the Beaujolais vineyard. The 68 belongs to a good friend and neighbor of mine. Now that we are done restoring them, we just enjoy driving and looking at them. 1 Ridge Runner reacted to this
RPM 1,190 Report post Posted November 1, 2015 Rub it in, just rub it in :) Very cool pics! Both cars look great, but the darker blue one looks nicer! Glad you're able to enjoy that American iron after all the crap you've been through.
Ridge Runner 1,113 Report post Posted November 1, 2015 That area looks a lot like Sanoma county in Cali.
Guillaume69 150 Report post Posted November 1, 2015 Ridge, it's funny you say that as I was thinking exactely the same thing as I was posting the pics. I have never been to Sonoma or Napa valleys, but saw pictures and movies. RPM, still waiting for USAA to pay. We came to an agreement and "settled" in June. Received a letter saying they were going to send a check "shortly" in early September. Still waiting...
Ridge Runner 1,113 Report post Posted November 1, 2015 Funny how they want their payments on time every time ,but when it comes time to pay out they take their own sweet time . When it was settled it should have paid with in a few days .
Guillaume69 150 Report post Posted November 1, 2015 I know. It drives me nuts. They probably believed that once I'd be out of the US, I would forget or something. How could I?
Midlife 814 Report post Posted November 2, 2015 If I were them, I'd deliver the check to you in person and then retire to the local wineries to celebrate....
