Shep69 reacted to bigmal in Converting my 69 Mach 1 to Right Hand Drive - Australia
Still doing a bit of finishing off with the conversion. The original plastic cover that goes around the steering column no longer fits so I had to make one. I chose steel because it’s easiest to work with. I’d hate to be paying me by the hour. Probably 40 hours in this. I’m a bit slow and drink too much. Pretty happy with how it turned out

Make sure you orient the fan blades in the correct direction. My Maradyne fans have reversible blades to make them a "puller" or "pusher. I really like mine.

Hi Shep,
I recently had problems with my compressor (Sandon 134) squealing. As I hadn't used it over winter I assumed it had failed so ordered a new one from CJPP. When it arrived I rang my aircond guy to arrange gassing after install. He asked a bunch of questions and then advised that the compressor is probably OK but the system is over pressurising.
What I had done: I had jus installed a twin thermo fan setup. The fan controller I used failed strait away so I just used the temp switch to turn on/off but did not have it set up to come on with the aircond. Before the fans were on the system was over pressurising and stalling the compressor. When I wired it to come on with the compressor the aircond was back to normal. I have since removed the thermo fans and gone back to my original flex fan setup as the fans were not as efficient and the temp gauge was reading higher than before although not boiling.
I have the same radiator condenser setup as you with a similar gap and had considered making a seal between the condenser and radiator but now I have gone back to the flex fan it is working fine. If I go down the thermo fan path again I will look at a seal. Possibly black foam or similar.
Now I have a new Sandon 134 compressor as a spare. An expensive spare!

If you have a pressure switch (that is working properly), you shouldn't worry about high pressure damaging pump seals (even if you do not have enough cooling over the condenser). My pressure switch has never cut either in the last year or so that I have been daily driving the car, I think that means my original clutch fan is doing a decent job in my climate. Looks like you have more than enough cooling and the pressure switch will be your insurance if the electric fans fail for some reason; I wouldn't worry about the gap between the condenser and radiator. Cheers

I am running a FiTech fuel command center that has been modified. I pulled out the float/valve assembly, and installed a full flow return line. I did this after talking to the FiTech folks at the Hot Rod Power Tour last year. The new fuel command center has this modification from the factory, and is much sleeker looking. I had already purchased it, so I am going to give it a try. Will get it started at Mikes (latoracing) in about 2 weeks, so will let you know. I may want to get a copy of your tuning settings if you have driven with it for a while.

Try this again:
- High pressure cutoff - >406psi (28 Bar)
- High pressure cooling fans on high - >254 psi (17.5 Bar)
- Low pressure cooling fans off <175 psi (12.1 Bar)
- Low Pressure cutoff <30 psi (2.1 Bar)
The difference between a Binary Safety Switch and a Trinary Safety Switch is that the Binary just has the compressor cutoffs, and the Trinary has those plus the cooling fan interfaces.

Shep69 reacted to Vicfreg in AC Condenser Question
The binary (or trinary) safety switch used in the modern replacement A/C systems protect the system from pressure limits, protect the compressor and prevent freezing up. It will also turn your cooling fans on/off as a first level of protection prior to shutting off your compressor. On my vintage air system I have a trinary safety switch, it has the following settings:
-
- High pressure cutoff - >406psi
- High pressure cooling fans on high - >254 psi
- Low Pressure cutoff <30 psi (2.1 Bar)

I think that is probably ok then. I will have to go back and look at my gap, but appears to be the same.

Bad news on the fires here. A Canadian C130 Hercules with a USA crew crashed on Thursday 23 with no survivors in the 3 man crew. Pretty shocking, we've had helicopters and fixed wings crash but nothing this size.
At this stage nothing is known why it went down. I am part of fire aviation and the flight trace looked normal until it went down. It dropped retardant for 2 seconds just before we lost sight of it.
We have had a lot of US and Canadian aviation people over this year and they have been some of the best people we work with. Their level of expertise is very high and they all hit the ground running. They found that the word 'mate' has many variations from positive to negative but can be used in every social situation.
It's bad enough to loose people in fires, worse still when they are miles from home and away from family helping out strangers.
RIP B134 and thanks.

Yes, sad indeed. I am working in Canada right now, this was heavily covered in the news. The plane was operated by Coulson Aviation a well known worldwide aircraft firefighting business. They had loaned the plane to the RFS for these fires.

Shep69 got a reaction from mwye0627 in What sort of filler would you use?
I’m ok as I live on the West Coast.
Most of the fires are on the East Coast. It’s bad real bad. Millions of animals are dead . Some species will become extinct that say. Over 2000 homes destroyed and lots of people have perished.

Isn't Radiator Springs in the Disney flic Cars?

Shep69 got a reaction from jjstang in Lower Radiator Spring
I noticed my lower radiator spring was pretty ordinary and you could squeeze the hose easily.
The springs that get supplied with the hose are pretty light weight so I decided to find a replacement.
I ventured out to the shed to see what I could find and found that the springs that are in the gear sprinklers are a perfect fit . You need two but what a difference. I was lucky enough to have a couple of old broken sprinklers in my spare box . I can’t even squeeze the hose at all now. Thought I would just share this as it may help out others.

The repops I bought from CJ didn’t have the right curvature for the front fender, so ended up putting on slightly scratched originals I found at a swap meet.

Hello
I have just released an new light design.
Daytime running lights for the 69-70. These turn your park light to white DRLs. The turn lights remain amber.
The turn lights are about 5x brighter than the 1157A bulb.
LEDs on the left, 1157A on the right.
Just contact me thru my web site if interested.

Thanks

ford contour fans fit the 24" radiator. you can get them shipped from the us. the only other fan that might fit that will flow around as much air is a sidewinder.

On the other forum they said a BA Falcon would fit perfectly so I bought a pair. They overhang the radiator an wont clear the battery and aircond pipes so I bought the same one as you which fitted perfectly. Unfortunately just doesn’t have the flow. I may do a bit more work trying to fit the BA fans down the track but for now I’ll just stick with the flex fan.

Whipped up a little handy dandy hood puller this morning ,yanked that sucker right out like a tooth !
Only problem i could find with the hood was i was light on the gel coat on one of the scoops but that is not a problem ,i just have to take a little more care spraying up in there in the mold .
I sat it on the 70 ,nothing bolted down and it just about a perfect fit .i even held the headlight buckets in place to get some pics . I will have to pull out one of my 69 and bolt it all down ,hinges and all

Under brace ,steel hinge mounting in place ,the under bracing is done . The latch mounting will go in after i trim it out
