I've had both and in my opinion the ball and socket works a lot better than the standard flange.

Barnett and Ridge really hit the nail on the head.  I had to make both corrections - trim the seal some and massage the window moldings.  The replacement window rubber has a higher water dam in the corners.  I trimmed about an 1/8th of an inch off to make the water dam be the same as the rest of the rubber gasket.  It now hits the corners flush and I'm happy with it.  Thank you everyone for your help with this.

I love the overheads... I'm rewiring them to use an SPDT switch so that they will come on when the door opens.  Also I installed a dimming module since my dashboard was out.  Basically it keeps the courtesy lights on 20 seconds after the door is closed and up to 10 mins when the door is left open.  During the winter I have a hard time finding the ignition with my keys if I close the door... and even with the door open the original lights are inadequate.

If the rear axle doesn't leak then your rear bearings are most likely fine.  I wouldn't go through the trouble and expense.  Instead I'd focus on finding a KH disc kit or 69 original discs for the front.  Sometimes people pull their discs off the front to go with big brake kits like Wilwood or Brembo.

My father was one of those who died from asbestos exposure in the shipyard.  He lived about 16 months after his diagnosis.  He kept huge posters of all the ships and submarines he had worked on in a hall closet when I was growing up.  As a child I would occasionally sneak them out and look at them.  My understanding is that it was everywhere on the ships - walls, pipes, etc wrapped in sheets of asbestos.

Thank you, I rarely talk about it but the memory of my father is often with me.  The larger lesson from this is that many products are dangerous and some hazards I'm sure we haven't even discovered.  Still there is plenty of room to enjoy the hobby and be safe at the same time.  I always keep good dust and organic vapor respirators close at hand.

If your car had a lot of underbody coating then it was probably put on after 1969.  I'm only aware that Ford undercoated the wheel wells.

Just pulled my molding off last night and I have five of these plastic clips.  Three are on the longer piece that overlaps and two on the other.  I also have the foam strip across the windshield like RidgeRunner mentioned... not sure where I'll find a replacement.

moodster got a reaction from Shep69 in Which headlights are bright and fit?
My 69 certainly has a lot of problems but luckily the headlights aren't one of them.  I used the Mustang Project LED lights.  I haven't had a chance to get the beam patterns that Mach1Driver requested - I guess I just don't have the desire to go through all the trouble - but I can tell you I drove 1290 miles last weekend in the car and the headlights work fantastic.  I don't get any complaints from other drivers and on the dark roads, of which I drove probably a dozen hours on, my beam pattern looked much like my wife's 2010 F150.  I'm not a lighting expert but given my experiences, they just plain work for me.  Now before I sound like an endorsement for Mustang Project, I can tell you that I just threw their rear LED tail lights in the trash.  I've only had them for 2-3 years but the design was poor and trouble prone for a car that gets driven a lot.

moodster got a reaction from RPM in Explain to me the layers of carpet...
Mine is a stock California fastback and it had a layer of insulation like stuff with a black heavy rubbery backing.  I left that in there.  Then there is the jute backing on the carpet which came bonded onto the new carpet.  The old jute backing was mostly crushed and destroyed so it was thrown away with the original carpet.

The SD buckles look like 67 Mustang buckles.  You could buy the Wesco setup and use your stock 69 buckles instead.  I can tell you that the chrome aviator style buckles shown in the picture above rattle a lot.

I don't remember the front backspacing... they came in a package of four.  Do they make different 15x7 backspacings in the Magnum 500s?  The rear is 5.5" backspacing.  Here is a pic to show the difference in the front and rear tires... the rear is about 2 inches taller which really helps to give a very slight rake with reverse eye leafs.

Another pic to show that I don't rub around the wheel well.  I didn't have to modify any sheetmetal.

I had those same tires and rims (15x7 235/60) and mine sat much higher in the front.  I got lowering springs all around and switched my rear rim/tire to a 15x10 and 275/60 and now I'm level.

I went with the Total Cost Involved (TCI) system you mentioned from Hart Rods. I actually replaced my battery panel for a new one when I replaced the radiator support...unsure why as the battery is going in the trunk :( I did the Heidts 4 link in the rear.

Could it be that you have so much valve overlap that the fuel is getting burnt in the exhaust?

Mike, the resistance values are off consistently with the aftermarket sending units.  You can fix the issue by putting a resistor inline but not many people want or know how to do that.  The original senders do go bad from time to time.

moodster got a reaction from Raven R code in New Headlights Setup?
I can confirm that the new LED lights I installed work extremely well for me.  I'm not a lighting professional but the beam looks focused and is far brighter then the old halogens.  After some slight aim adjustments to the beam, driving with them at night is a pleasure.  The only negatives from a purely stock perspective is that the light is far whiter and the pigtail/controller coming off the back of the light must be tied up somewhere.  The lens is not noticeably different from stock - most won't be able to tell it is LED.

The lenses are Hella glass so I assume they focus the light well... they make headlights for all kinds of cars.  I'll let you know how they do once I get them in and adjusted properly.

No you don't have to alter the wiring harness or the headlight holders.  The new bulbs plug right in but you do have to deal with about a foot of additional wire and the led controller.
