Raven R code 281 Report post Posted October 3, 2015 Does anyone know what the deal is on this part? I've never seen one on a car but it does seem to have a ford part number associated with it. Look at this on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/262075878478 NEW! 1969-1970 Mustang Lower Door Weatherstrip Door Seals Set of 2, Pair Cougar
Rsmach1 71 Report post Posted October 3, 2015 Very interesting, I've worked on quite a few of these cars, and a few cougars and don't remember seeing that.
STL. Mark 11 Report post Posted October 3, 2015 Yes interesting. I have never seen one and I have had my Mustang since 1975.
Rsmach1 71 Report post Posted October 3, 2015 For that matter I just pulled my doors off and don't think mine had mounting holes for it as pictured. I'll check tomorrow and post, possibly a dealer installed option?
RPM 1,190 Report post Posted October 3, 2015 but it does seem to have a ford part number associated with it. Sure doesn't look like any Ford part number to me.
DOZX 15 Report post Posted October 3, 2015 They are in the assembly manual. I bought a set but are not going to use them as they will wear paint away after a while! Won't be driving through cyclone weather anyway!
Raven R code 281 Report post Posted October 3, 2015 Sorry....thought the part number was in the link. Here it is : Door bottom seal, C9ZZ-6520272
BuckeyeDemon 211 Report post Posted October 3, 2015 I had a similar question a few years ago. Didn't get much info either. http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=228.0 I ended up not installing them. Too sloppy.
69RavenConv 288 Report post Posted October 3, 2015 Yeah, the general consensus seems to be that the part is genuine, it did exist, but not all cars received them. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason as to which cars got it and which didn't. I followed the advice in the thread Buckeye Demon linked; mine had the holes so I installed the seal. I honestly don't recall if they were there originally.
Rsmach1 71 Report post Posted October 3, 2015 Mine does not have the holes, San Jose Feb 69 build.
Kaspar 21 Report post Posted October 3, 2015 Mine has them and the holes for them too. Original San Jose build. CJ has the weatherstrip too. Changed one of mine a year ago as it was very old. http://www.cjponyparts.com/door-bottom-seal-lower-very-bottom-of-dr-1969-1970/p/WSDR3L/

Brian Conway 264 Report post Posted October 4, 2015 My September 68 NJ car did not have them. No holes in the door bottoms. So probably a special order of somet type ? Brian
stangs-R-me 121 Report post Posted October 5, 2015 My March NJ car had the seals, but there was only a couple of pieces still attached when I bought it in the early 80's so I took what was left off. Bought the seals from CJ's when I first saw them being repo'ed but have not tried to install them yet. Doug

MikeStang 247 Report post Posted October 6, 2015 My reproduction doors had the holes and the little gripper metal lips on each side where you insert the seal and bend the lips down to help hold it in place then put the screws in. I used mine but since my windows need adjustment I still have wind noise LOL

I used mine but since my windows need adjustment I still have wind noise LOL this post doesn't make any sense to me unless I have mine totally screwed up. are you referring to the normal seal that goes around the entire door, not just the bottom? if so, why are you putting screws in the bottom for that seal? can you post a picture? Dave R. 85 Report post Posted October 6, 2015 Buckeye, open the link in the original post. There is a flat strip that attaches to the bottom of the door. Separate pic from the rubber seal that goes all the way around door. Hard to see in the picture. Dave R.

Raven R code 281 Report post Posted October 7, 2015 BUCKEYE.....look at this picture. It represents a second seal that attached to the underside of the door. Trying to figure out why some cars had and other didn't. It carries a ford part number too. Dave
BuckeyeDemon 211 Report post Posted October 7, 2015 that's what I thought it was about. what I don't understand is why Mikestang is talking about the metal gripper lips for inserting the seal with screws. hence why I quoted his post.

BuckeyeDemon 211 Report post Posted October 7, 2015 Yeah...not sure where it exactly mounts. Maybe he has a better idea and thats what he was referring too. based on memory, I believe the holes for that extra seal are about 1" away from the required seal installed on all cars. I replicated the holes from my original doors into my new doors. In addition, I don't believe there are any screws used for the door seal that goes in that channel on the bottom(talking only about the very bottom if that's what Mikestang was actually referring too).
