  1. Well, Randy, in my case, the issue appeared at engine shut off, after normal driving. No starter still engaged or something of that nature. Just parking the car in the garage, turning the key into the off position, removing it from the ignition switch, and engine still running... You find yourself standing next to your car, looking at your keys in your hand, wondering if you’re in a movie called “Christine vs Poltergeist”. All I had to do then was pop the hood up and unplug the brown (iirc) wire from the solenoid to stop this paranormal phenomenon. That stuff bugged me (haunted me?) on and off for 3 or 4 months until I decided to swap the solenoid (which was a brand new one from Scott Brake, btw)... Never happened again after I put a new fonctional solenoid. I am glad it worked because my next - and last - option would have been to bring in Father Karras for an exorcism... G
  2. I had the « engine still running with key in my pocket » freaky voodoo type stuff, a couple years ago. Turned out it was a bad solenoid. No high revs issue, though.

  4. Bonjour Ya’ll! After a successful event last year, where we gathered 11 Boss 302s at the foot of the French Alps (Aix les Bains), mostly recent 2012 and 2013 models and one 1970, I am very proud to announce the location of our second Boss 302 meeting, scheduled on September the 8th 2018. We will spend the day at a privatized track in southern Burgundy, near a town called Torcy. The track is owned and managed by a former rallye champion. He designed it himself and it has been opened since 2015. Its a short track (2 km), but very technical and a little hilly, so there are a couple blind turns. I tested it earlier this year with my 2013 Boss and had so much fun, it is very promising. The environment is full of surprises and I can guarantee that hard core automotive enthusiasts will be delighted. I know I was! We are trying to set up an event gathering over 40 cars. The registration cost is 100 euro per car. After that, its free access to the track 0900-1200 and 1400-1700. No series, no timer. Just a max of 20 cars on the track at the same time. Security will be provided and managed by the track management office. Really, the idea is to exchange about our cars. On the parking and on the track. There will be a professional instructor pilot hired for the day (the son of the track owner), who will be available for those who have never been on a track, and might want advice on how to handle their cars. I am posting this event on this forum hoping to attract the attention of 1969-1970 European Boss owners. Write the date down in your agendas: Sat 8 September 2018, Circuit Vaison, Torcy, France. We really hope to see you there. Lets make this big fun! G Contact: boss302france@outlook.com
  5. I knew Optimas are gel. It’s written on it. LoL. I thought « dry » meant no liquid which is why I believed gel counted as « dry ». Guess I was wrong! The point being you don’t get liquid acid everywhere if you flip an Optima. G
  6. I opted for an Optima Red Top, and a battery tender for the winter months. Pricey (dry cells) but in the long term, I believe this battery will outlive all the others I had before, probably by a lot. And plenty of cold cranking amp (800) to revive my mighty OEM 351w. Autolite battery replicas are the worst batteries I ever came around: fine looks but expensive and very poor quality. Got two in a row, and both died within a year, in spite of taking good care of them... G
  7. Here’s Christmas to us in France. Every year, everyone is hoping for a white Christmas. I wouldn’t miss it for anything in the world. It must be very weird down under. Like in Cape Town I guess. Christmas in NW FL (a.k.a the Panhandle) is fairly brisk. North winds make for chilly nights, sometimes below zero Celsius (lower 30’s). G
  8. Another rental story here... While we were living in NW FL, we decided to spend one Christmas in Key West. We stayed on the Marines Base they have there, just by the Coast Guards facilites. Super nice! I had rented - and prepaid - a car for the whole week long stay. A little north of $450 had been taken by the rental company on our bank account the day prior our arrival there. The day we get there, at the counter, the clerk announced rather loudly (lots of people queueing next to us) that my card "failed" the credit check. To which I answered it was a debit card, that I was from abroad, didn't have/needed/required a credit card, therefore had no credit history in the US, but car was paid and enough money on the account to actually buy the car. "No Sir, I can't give you the car because you failed US credit checks." I was stuck there with my wife and two kids (2 and 9). I politely told him that the money had been withdrawn already from our account and that they owed us that car. For the third time, he used the failed credit BS. To which I finally answered that if he called me a failure in front of my family and the rest of the line of customers one more time, I would make sure his nose kissed his keyboard several times in a rather violent way. That's when he called security on me... It is a real shame I had to flash my US military ID card to the deputy sherif to get things back to where I was considered human again. We loved Key West and the Keys in general!! But hated the dark side of US business and bank credit system... G
  9. Those covers look absolutely fantastic. Super nice job! G
  10. I have had this squeaking issue literally for decades now... Comes and goes. At one point, I thought it was affected by outside temperature, but then I get it in hot or cold weather. It depends. I too completely restored my front end with quality parts (Moog), and I have my grease pump handy. But it keeps coming back... I recently read that spring perches bushings can be the cause. And that roller bearing spring perches, in addition to improving overall handling, could be a fix to this squeaky mess. So I pulled the trigger on these: http://www.virginiaclassicmustang.com/mobile/65-73-ROLLER-BEARING-SPRING-PERCHES-PAIR-P167809.aspx I should receive them in a week or two. That'll be my next move in the squeaky department. G
  11. Well, he is crying his eyes out... He intended to have it completely rebuilt, but facing the amount of work and associated cost, he then started to think about a Dynacorn body, but it would be near impossible to register it so now, he is thinking about parting it out to sell what's sellable and scrap the rest...
  12. I can tell you that a majority of the classics that are sold on eBay to buyers on my side of the "pond" are that way... We call them "sausages". You know, the poor quality ones they stuff with shit even porcs wont eat... Well, it's a shame, really, because a few assholes have managed to make this kind of "work" known as the "US restored cars". You won't find a more derogatory term on European forums now... Such a pity. Look at this 'vert. Was bought on eBay a couple months ago by a guy in my area. Over $30k. All the typical symptoms: bright red paint with shiny alloy wheels. Then here's what he found under the carpets, and after he sandblasted the lower rear Qpanels. Ugh... Makes me cringe. G
  13. Super nice write up. Congrats Bozo, sorry, Randy! LOL Keep them Mustangs rolling! G
  14. The typical post engine rebuild paranoia... It goes after a couple thousand miles without issues, it's only a matter of trust. LOL G
  15. That black urethane stuff is a freaking nightmare to work with. Three years later I still have bad dreams about it. My wife says I have PTSD... G
  16. Exactly. Like some kind of apex Asphalt Predator... G
  17. I am in love with my 69. Springtime feelings. LOL
  18. And again, don't get me wrong, I've been using them for 12 years, so I like them too! They just don't grip well at all per today's standards. On a side note, I too lived for a while (3 years +) on the Gulf Coast (Pensacola FL). And yes, it gets pretty hot in summer. It can rain pretty hard too. But when it does, there's way too much water on the roads to go drive a freshly restored Mustang. LOL G
  19. Congrats!! Agree with the Aussies, that would cost 10 times more over here too... What's in it? 302? G
  20. Here is another proof that 69 Mustangs are the purest. This is just raw muscle car DNA...
  21. Mmmm... I have been using the Cooper Cobras on my 69 for the past 12 years now (235/60R15). Because as Barnett says, I want the "look". And I must say that I find this look one of the finest, when combined with my AR Torque Thrust wheels. But when it comes to performance, I would say that these tires are some of the worst I've ever had on a car: they do not grip well at all. They feel like pieces of hard soap. First of all, the rubber is hard as steel. So hard they never wear out! When it's cold or on wet roads, it's like having plastic instead of rubber. Dangerous. On a track, it's a lot of fun, as you are constantly drifting and squealing, but you just can't take a corner properly. I have Michelin Pilot Super Sports on my 2013 Boss, and man, what a difference... Especially on wet surfaces. Price as well, LOL !! IMO, those Coopers are fairly unexpensive and good looking tires. But that's all. BFs Radial TAs are very similar, just a hair pricier if I remember correctly. I am patiently waiting for someone to design performance tires with white letters some day. G
  22. Retrosound without a single hesitation. I got the model 2 "Malibu" for my 69. Couldn't be happier: top notch technology with classic looks. G
