NASCAR engine 69 Fastback

Recommended Posts

One of the problems with not pulling parts of yourself is trying to figure where they go! This is the trim for the front and rear screens, I think I have it all... I've heard that the aftermarket trim pieces are not too great so was going to send all the trim of for repair. Does anyone have good experiences with new trim?

My 2cts are rework your pieces, The repops are not the same.

I had to get a tailgate for my 73 pickup, They are advertised as ford tooling and exact replacement just like ford made.

The looks and fitment was good but the weight was off by at least 6lbs so it was thinner metal.

will have to see if it holds up to 40+ years of service.

Thanks, I'll probably send the originals off but it's a 6 month wait list! One of those things you learn too late - send the trim off first. If there were good repop items available I would just get new as I imagine the cost will probably be comparable once the labour hours to do the originals add up.

The engine bay repair work is pretty much done, 50 years of life had left over 100 holes to fill! There must have been all manner of items bolted or screwed to the inner panels. The heater/ac pipe passageways have been filled. The sump tank mounting in the boot is underway also. IMG_1743.jpg.fbb09f8c25ccce6802ef56a485b3516e.jpgIMG_1744.jpg.bcdd759bea979c3a0d82331481dd895c.jpgThe rear end is almost complete, the shocks have been located and floor reliefs in the process of being fabricated for the roll bar arms.

Lowering blocks used to get an idea of where we're wanting to sit in regard to height.

And the wheels which were only just ordered have arrived already! Trans Am Race Engineering are fantastic to deal with and they are available in the States as well. They even machined up and fitted the steel inserts for the 5/8 studs. For anyone that is interested I weighed both the 10's and 8's and took a couple of pics so you can see the different spokes.

The fuel tank is finished and sump tank recessed into trunk. The fuel tank holds 75 litres which is about the standard capacity I believeIMG_1846.thumb.jpg.8b303e4809595b018c131db30708c3d6.jpg

The engine breathes out the bottom of the sump tank. I'll see how it goes but depending on how much oil residue results from venting there I may have to weld fittings on the outlets and vent to a separate catch tank.

275 radials and 235 fronts mounted up. Unfortunately there are not many choices here in Aus for 235/60 15s without white lettering on the sidewall but these will do the job. I'm happy I went with 10 inch rims in the end as I can probably fit a 295/55 in the rear tub if I want to go wider later.

I love the look of Mini Lites on a 69/70. Those are some big meats on the back. What is the rear tire diameter?

I cannot wait to get my car done....I have minilites ready to go but they are 8x17 and 9.5x17 so I can get a decent performance tire at an affordable price.

So do I, I think the trans am Mustangs were awesome. It's a 28" tyre.

Radiator support done and made removable. I hope I'm not pulling the engine and trans out often but this will make life alot easier when it's required.

The scoop almost finished, we aren't allowed to have carbs etc hanging out the hood here in QLD unless under a scoop. This will bolt on from underneath so it can be taken off if desired though.

We are getting close to finished - minor rust repairs in the doors, hard lines for engine oil to and from the trunk, fit rear bumper a little closer, and a strut brace rod and we're good to start on the exhaust.
