very fat and very dumb 40 Report post Posted January 19, 2019 My painter didn't paint the entire fender extension and I'm afraid a lot of it will be visible when the hood is open. I'm looking for a photo of the visible areas when the hood is up so I can see what I need to paint. I sold my 69 convertible that I used for Chinese blueprints and I just don't recall how much you can see. Thanks in advance. u
RPM 1,190 Report post Posted January 19, 2019 Can ya post a pic of your fender extension/ headlight bucket? The inner light mounting area behind the light on mine was painted black, not the body color.
Brian Conway 264 Report post Posted January 19, 2019 Actually pretty hard to see in there. With a flashlight and with my head even with the grill I can see slight body color over spray at the perimeter. Mostly the rest of the inside is a grey/primer color. Don't think a picture will tell you even that much ? Brian
fvike 173 Report post Posted January 19, 2019 The headlight bucket isn't supposed to be all one color. It should have a black-out area, painted by a brush. https://pin.it/cjyaxgzwhnsn63 http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=9875.
Ridge Runner 1,113 Report post Posted January 19, 2019 I have seen them painted by brush and what looks like rattle can in black
very fat and very dumb 40 Report post Posted January 20, 2019 Good info on the black areas. Here’s what I’m looking at, it seems it should be body color.

RPM 1,190 Report post Posted January 20, 2019 Every original paint mustang headlight bucket I've seen had the high beam housing painted black. But it's your car, do what you want. Unless you're a concours snob :)
Ridge Runner 1,113 Report post Posted January 20, 2019 With it being behind the grill i would paint it black so it blends in with the back ground 1 RPM reacted to this
aslanefe 333 Report post Posted January 21, 2019 Both front and back of the inner light area is originally black on my car. The tab that the grill mounts to is also black. The area between inner and outer lights on the inner light side is body color over spray but chrome trim covers it.
very fat and very dumb 40 Report post Posted January 21, 2019 Thanks for all the info, very helpful. I was able to find this on the Concours site. Looks like I'm slapping some pain on with a brush, ugh. http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=1344.msg6892#msg6892
newstang 388 Report post Posted January 21, 2019 the guy who painted my car did the same thing, everyone asked "did you run out of paint?" so this was my fix. Problem solved :-) 4 RPM, mwye0627, SWPruett and 1 other reacted to this
