To summarize your thread: with a 4.25 backspace 215x65x15 and 225x65x15 don't rub. Barnett468 says lots of people run 235x60x15 but you have found some that say they rub.

FYI from tiresize.com/calculator:

215x65x15 is 26.0" dia and 8.5" wide (ok)

225x65x15 is 26.5" dia and 8.9" wide (ok)

235x60x15 is 26.1" dia and 9.3" wide (may rub)

That being said, does anyone know if any of these would work with the 1" Arning drop?

I am running 16x8 inch vintage wheel works rims with 4.5 inch backspace. Tires are 225x55x16 with the Shelby drop and 1 inch lowering springs. No rubbing. I think you should be good.

thanks, that's very Interesting- look at the numbers:

215x65x15 is 26.0" dia and 8.5" wide, 4.25 backspace (no rub)

225x65x15 is 26.5" dia and 8.9" wide, 4.25 backspace (no rub)

235x60x15 is 26.1" dia and 9.3" wide, 4.25 backspace (may rub)

225x55x16 is 25.7" dia and 8.9" wide, 4.5 backspace, Shelby drop, (no rub)

I checked these twice because I couldn't believe that the 15s have a bigger diameter than the 16. Well your tires are shorter by 0.3", and in the middle range of widths, and who knows what 0.25" more backspace is doing.

It would be appreciated if more of you "Shelby drop" guys could give your wheel/tire sizes. Thanks

I'm running 225/60/15 on 15 x 7 inch magnum 500s with lowered springs . No Problems. I think the spring choice is the key. I could have used 245 tyres but would have needed taller springs.

Thanks, we're starting to get quite a list:

215x65x15 is 26.0" dia and 8.5" wide, 4.25 backspace (no rub)

225x60x15 is 25.6" dia and 8.9" wide, 4.25 backspace, lowered springs (no rub)

225x65x15 is 26.5" dia and 8.9" wide, 4.25 backspace (no rub)

235x60x15 is 26.1" dia and 9.3" wide, 4.25 backspace (no rub) edit: barnett has had on over 50 cars

225x55x16 is 25.7" dia and 8.9" wide, 4.5 backspace, Shelby drop, (no rub)

it's the second one down and the smallest diameter yet. Any more Shelby drop guys?

Interesting- never really thought about wheel / tire interferences when I did the drop on the 69. Does anyone know if there any issues known with 17" wheel setups like a 17x8" 4.5" BS running 245/45/17s (thinking V48s or the like)?

This is a link to a thread on VMF forum.  Don't know how accurate the listing is.

Dave

Thanks Dave, the site I'm using rounds it off to 1 decimal instead of 2, but otherwise the numbers are the same. Unfortunately none of the sites tell us if they will fit our Mustangs :)

I do the 1 inch drop on all my cars and never had one rub .Using the newer replacement upper control arm may rub even with out the drop as the shrouding around the ball joint sticks out a bit farther than the stock one ,a light grinding before install and they will be good .

I did the Arning drop, using 15x7x4.5bs Vintage Magnum 500's with BFG radial TAs 215/65/15 No rub. Those are the fronts on my Sig.

FYI:

I don't care too much for the stock nose in the air look. I installed a set of 1" lowering springs from Eaton, the stance was still too high so I cut a 1/4 off the coil. The car now sits at 25" from ground to apex of fender with the same set of wheels as noted above.

Well it looks like this discussion is on its way to page two so...  I would really like to put a pair of the 235-60-15's w/4.25 BS on my 1" arning drop car.  I have been trying to work this out and it always ends up the same.  To close to call.  The 235 tire should fit in the wheel well no problem.  Should probably turn with no problem.  The problem, that I can see, is the upper control arm ball joint.  Pictures are of my 215-70-14 wheel and the 1/4" wide wrench in the free space.  The 235 tire will be about 1/2" taller at that spot and 5/8's" wider.  So am I missing something ?  Thanks, Brian

What is the backspace on the wheels in the picture? The tire size calculator says that the 235 tire is only .2" taller but .8" wider than your current tire. This sounds like the area that RidgeRoute grinds off in post #14...but he only has a 3-3/4 backspace. Hopefully someone with some first hand experience can elaborate.
