That's what everybody did. There was a lead truck setting the pace and another following up in the rear. We would fall back as much as they'd let you (I was the last car in the chains) and then hit it through the corners but you'd catch up to the other cars pretty quickly and wouldn't come close to speeds that would really thrill you.

I attended Good Guys this weekend, albeit only on Sunday because I got rained out on Saturday. It was a good time even with so few cars compared to Saturdays. At least the lines and crowds were down. Even did a few parade laps on the track.

When I got back to my car I actually ended up getting the 'Mighty Mustang' award for the show. I guess the judges troll around the cars looking for candidates. No big award or anything but I got a plaque and did a drive by in front of the little stage. Fun twist.

Pic of the parade laps. I've driven this track in true high-speed events a few times but never been on it with the Mustang. It was still fun for me but my friend, who was in the car with me, had never put a foot on any kind of track was over the moon. Watching him was more fun than the drive itself . Funny thing was I offered to let him drive and he declined saying he'd never been in a race before! LOL!

This is a story of you can't see the forest for the trees.
When the transmission acted so terribly I was SURE i'd messed something up internally when installing the shift kit even though I thought I was being very careful during the process. But there were a lot of little parts and springs to keep up with and you never know.
Well, after trying to adjust the vacuum modulator multiple directions but with no good results I decided to call Trans-go and get their input. The gentleman was very helpful but pretty technical about what I should do/check so I was a bit overwhelmed and also lacked some of the tools he said I'd need. I told him I'd get the tools and give it a shot. Then as we're saying our goodbye's he throw's "oh, you might want to check that your kickdown linkage isn't binding or putting pressure on the kickdown lever."
Well I figure that's a small thing I can certainly do immediately so I put the car on the lift and sure a day it definitely 'seemed' to be exerting pressure. I disconnected it and went for a drive. I had a brand new gearbox! I can't tell you how relieved I was.
So it turns out that one of the many, many things I did while I had access to the friend's shop was remove the 1/2" carb spacer that the previous owner had installed. Hated how it made my shaker hood scoop stick out. In doing so I basically dropped the kickdown lever 1/2" and that was enough to bind the kickdown lever.
Thank goodness it was a small thing and thanks to all of you for your suggestions.

So by this pic it looks like the upper hose comes off the front of the intake towards the front so it's a Windsor. The car was always presented as refinished to a high level but not to original. It was presented as a matching numbers car and that the engine had extensive tuning by a pro shop. It certainly is far more 'finished' than my car.
All that said I think everyone's input has made me focus on how I'd want to use the car. And really, I want to drive it and enjoy it and not just show it. Like one of you also said, the type of paint job on this car is more for a show car than a driver as it's very unforgiving for touch ups, as we're seeing now.
I love the '69 style the most but the 70 is my second favorite and Grabber Orange is absolutely my favorite color. I think I got all hyped up on the 69 and the condition and lost sight of the ball for a bit. Isn't the first time it's happened to me. I'm going to stick with my car and continue to make improvements over time.
Thanks everyone. This was very valuable info to me.
BTW, this probably won't be the last time I'm distracted by a shiny object. :-)

That's a tough decision that I may face one day as well. My car looks great for the most part but whoever painted it missed some details and now there's some chips and nicks on it. Thing is that if I paint it now to make it perfect am I going to be too paranoid to drive it and enjoy it. As it sits now I use it all the time and don't get all wound up every time I park it somewhere.
Something to think about before dropping the $10K

And hence the 'duh' in my post. :-)
I hand tightened them all back then and thought I put some effort into it. I must of been fading by the time I got to the one set. Also I wasn't using a torque wrench back then. Definitely lesson learned.

My friend who was an ex-professional mechanic just dropped off his Steelman ChassisEar exactly like the one stangnet33 posted. Now when I get some time I'll hopefully track this noise, and some of the others, down.

Took my car to it's first car show this Saturday inside Texas Motor Speedway for the Good Guys Classic Car Show. The weather was absolutely beautiful. Went with a friend of mine who took his '69 Shelby GT500. He has 4 mustangs and whom I hold personally libel for the purchase and any pain my car's cause me. :-)

There were well over a 1000 cars there and some very nice Mustangs as well. If fact, the same beautiful red '70 Mach 1 that was there last year was there again. Funny thing was, this car and one other custom Buick Electra, were the only cars I took pictures of last year. I just always lusted after the 69-70 Mach 1's. I'd be curious if the owner of that car was on this forum.

Here's a pic of when we first arrived. After some time it filled completely in and was PACKED. I have to say I was shocked at how many cars were already in place by the time we pulled in at 8:15. I thought we'd beat the crowd. NOT!

The hood on my car is slightly bowed above the driver side fender. It sits up about a 1/8 - 1/4" above the fender line. It seems to be centered around where the new hood bumper was installed in that area prior to my purchase.

I've removed the hood bumper for now but need to know what's a safe way to 'flatten out' the hood without risking creasing it or damaging the paint?
