  1. More progress today... Got the last of the brackets and the strut braces off: Here's the underside after getting all the brackets off. Just have to grind down the spot welds: And for the first time - I mocked up the cross brace. Good news here is that the rails are arrow-straight, so I don't think the front end of this car was ever damaged. It fit in perfectly with little force, and lines up perfectly: And here you can see where I'll have you cut down the top pinch weld/lip of the rail to properly box in the upper shock/control arm mount Next up is to clean up the rails, and mark the alignment of the crossmember for welding:
  2. you should update one thread.. its hard to keep track of a new pic in a new thread every time :)
  3. Got the column taken apart last night so I can start modifying it for the Rod & Custom Rack setup. This will be used temporarily so that I can steer the car around the garage. Eventually it will get replaced with an aftermarket column.
  4. Haha - I'm not that good yet, but luckily most of the small welding I have to do won't be seen once the car is finished. Mine are structurally sound, but not as clean as those. haha
  5. More progress on the brackets today... almost ready to get it all clear!
  6. Here's better pics of the crossmember: The full order sheet:
  7. The Rod and Custom kit finally arrived!!!!!! Its A LOT of boxes, but all this stuff looks top notch!! I'm very impressed so far! 2" Drop Spindles Sway Bar Apron Panels (replaces Shock Towers) Drilled/Slotted Rotors Box of Brackets, Hardware, Shocks, brake lines, etc... QA1 Coilovers (these look sick!) FOX Mustang PS Rack from Unisteer Upper and Lower Tubular Control Arms And the holy grail!! This is some of the best fab work I've ever seen: I'm going to start doing some of the finishing work on the rails this weekend so that I can hopefully get this mounted sometime in the next few weeks!
  8. Good Eye! You can also see the Ranger and explorer being sold in his estate sale too:clap: http://www.rgilliganauctions.com/4-25%20brown%20contents.html
  9. Not worth it... The "Mustang II" front ends you hear about for the 69-70s are not actual parts from the Mustang II front ends. Its just the term most folks use for the double A-Arm suspension setup that was initially used on those cars. By the time you did all the welding to get an original II suspension in your car you'd be better off either replacing your stock stuff or putting it towards a proper Mustang II kit like the ones from Heidts or Rod & Custom The proper kits are complete drop-ins where the cross member is welded in, and everything else just bolts to it. Check out my thread for details. I'm in the middle of putting one in now
  10. Quick update... Now that I knew exactly where to cut, I got the passenger side tower out in about 40mins. The Passenger side rail has a bit more pitting, but still structurally sound. once the new system is boxed in around the rail - it'll never see the elements again. I also found out that teh aprons were replaced at somepoint, and rather than weld them in, the person just used some kind of thick, black adhesive. LOL That's been fun to scrape out:
  11. Shouldn't matter. Maybe he paid you a $4,500 finder's fee as a bonus. If not - He's proving tax fraud by signing a bill of sale for the incorrect amount.
  12. This. I've done that before myself on both ends (being the buyer and seller) knowing that if a legal thing came up - the car was "legally" sold for for what Bill of Sale and DMV papers said. You're fine. Reiterate the facts to him - Sold as is, Said it needed Resto, offered for him to remove carpets, sold for $500. At that point he should just wave the :surrender:
  13. Excellent! My work will be similar with the R&C setup! Glad to see someone else tackling something big! :)
  14. Next up was using a combination of my sawzall, 4.5" cutoff wheel, dremel saw max, a BFH, big pry bar, and my sneakers: It took about an hour to get it out, but now that I know exactly where to drill and cut the pass side tower should be easier. Also, the metal under the rails was in really good shape. Once I ground the spot welds down, the rail looks like its in really good shape - so that was good news.
  15. Started out Friday after work and unbolted, pried, and cut out the old suspension: Sunday was the big day... lots of cutting, grinding, drilling, sawing. I started out using my spot weld cutter to drill out every spot weld I could find that attached the tower to the car. That took a while, but using a good drill, good cutters, and some oil let me make it through the whole job on the same bit.

  17. I'm not using that motor anymore, so not sure why you're posting about it almost a year later. Anyway... Last night I fabbed up a redneck chassis brace so that I can start cutting out the suspension without the car falling on the floor :) It's actually stronger than I thought it would be, and will allow me to roll it out of the garage as needed:
  18. That is sick! Can't wait to see it when its done!
  19. Was searching for a column rebuild thread and I think they're making that white piece now! https://www.musclecarresearch.com/C9AZ-7347-A
  20. This screename is blasting on several threads and quoting stuff from mine that is 9+ months old. 22. Okay.... I won't have pics for a few weeks, but I just ordered the Rod & Custom kit! I'm so excited!! They should be shipping it in 2-3 weeks. Here's the specs: Rod & Custom Complete Mustang II Front Suspension System Options: 11" Drilled/Slotted Rotors 2" Drop Spindles Adjustable Coil Over Springs/Shocks Power Steering Rack Mounts for 4.6L 4V V8 Mod Motor
  23. If this is a Cobra 4V motor - it will not fit without modifying your shock towers. (I'm doing the same 4.6 4V motor in mine). I'll be using the Rod and custom complete MII suspension for it. 4.6 4V vs. 302/351 SBF I don't see how you would ever get the 99' Mustang suspension into the '70. The dimensions are pretty different, and there are far better aftermarket solutions than trying to make that work.
  24. I've been torn about what color to paint this car... Black or Grabber Blue. I've had black cars my whole life, and LOVE a clean black car. Nothing looks better! But lately the Grabber Blue has been growing on me. Its such a great color for that year car. I've been planning on building a loosely Boss 429/TransAM inspired Resto-Mod for this car, and while bored at work, this is what I came up with: I'm falling in love with my design... hehe .
  25. They're actually called "U-Nuts" CJs carrys them if you can't find them locally: http://www.cjponyparts.com/fender-bolt-u-nut-12-1965-1970/p/HW119/
