RCE1313 23 Report post Posted May 13, 2014 I'm new to the site and i'm in the process of rebuilding my 69 fastback. Finally have the paint and body work complete and now i'm researching and buying parts to put back together. I'm on the market for a 9" rear end. Does anyone have recommendations on where to find one? My car will have around 400-450hp once complete. I was looking at Moser Engineering website but wanted to see if there is other options. Patriotgamez 14 Report post Posted May 13, 2014 Is it just the third member your looking for, or the entire axle? What is your budget?
Rsanter 152 Report post Posted May 13, 2014 For high HP applications you are sometimes better getting the rear end out of the lincolin or other full sized cars. It is a much beefier housing. Then install a built center section and axles from the aftermarket. Have the rear housing cut down to the desired width you need espically if you are installing mini tubs and all Bob
69NC 21 Report post Posted May 13, 2014 I went with John's nine inch rear end. Custom axle housing, Thorsen diff, 31 spline axle shafts. They build a lot for racing, and the quality is super. They are also cheaper than Currie, or Moser http://www.9inchfactory.com/
mustangstofear 608 Report post Posted May 13, 2014 We build complete plug and play rear ends or just the 3 third members.
cavboy78 28 Report post Posted May 13, 2014 you can try out www.justrearends.com as well. Not to start the great debate, but depending on your needs/driving style/drivetrain, you could look at sourcing an 8" pretty cheaply. I have a built 351w and T5 that has lived for awhile in front of an 8".
RCE1313 23 Report post Posted May 13, 2014 everyone thanks for the input! I'll need the entire axle. I currently have a 8" in the car but plan to use it on a 41 ford truck we are rebuilding and didn't want to spend the money on rebuilding it and just put that $ towards a 9" rear end. Patriotgamez - I was trying to stay around $3k on budget with adding disc brakes. I've heard good things about wildwood brakes so that's my next purchase. It seems by looking at all of the websites I've found I'll probably blow the budget by a few hundred if I buy brand new online. Mustangtofear - Can you send me the info and pricing on your rear ends? maxum96 32 Report post Posted May 15, 2014 If you can weld or have someone that can, get a truck 9" housing out of the junkyard. They are way beefier and stronger than any car housing. Cut it down to the correct length. Remove the truck spring pad perches and shock mounts. Weld on new heavy duty perches. Weld on new ends to the axle tubes. Reuse the center section, or add gears and Trac Loc, Locker or Tru Trac carrier of your choice. I did it and it was very inexpensive and fairly easy to do. Old on the left and new on the right with added back bracing
