How can i make my mustang sound louder?

I own a 1997 ford mustang v6. My friend owns a little put put car and its louder than my mustang when revved up.. My car sounds wimpy in comparison :(. I want to make it louder, sound more intimidating, but in a good way. I love the old rumble of a mustang thats why i got one in the first place.

 

How can i give it a good loud sound without it sounding stupid?

The cheapest and probably easiest way would be to get a new muffler. If its not already duel exhaust you could do that and if you wanted to get a little more extreme and in some states illegal, you could do a catless midpipe and or headers. I have a 2000 gt and I have stock manifolds, a Bassani catless x-pipe, and a magnaflow magnapak catback. It's pretty loud at idle but it really screams when I open it up. I get compliments on the sound all the time.

Do you just want loud? Or, do you want it to sound GOOD too?

 

I've heard of V6 guys running GT rear mufflers and tail pipes. I have a buddy who owns an all late model Mustang salvage yard, and he sells the exhaust stuff to do this all the time.

Flowmaster is my choice but be aware alot of the aftermarket mufflers also give you a lot of drone through the car at certain rpm ranges some people don't enjoy this

Best bang for your buck for sound quality is a cheap set of turbo mufflers from your local parts store. Put them on and run them until you can afford to trade up to a V8.

Just because it's loud doesn't mean it's fast. My car will run away and hide from many cars that are a lot louder.
