And another crappy wheel restoration from rim blow buddy. See pictures!

Recommended Posts

i wouldn't be happy. i almost wonder if something when wrong when masking for the black, and it leaked onto the woodgrain painted area. then someone tried to use some thinner or something to remove the black and it removed the woodgrain paint as well.

however, just in case you can't work out this issue, it's one of those details that you and others would probably never notice once it's in the car. i have lots of little issues here and there on mine that personally would get to me when i was detailing each part. as months go by, i discover i never notice the issue any more.

i wish more people (including myself) would indicate the problems (or just quality) of parts and services (and that includes mass reproduced repop items). not necessarily as a form of bitching in all cases, but just as a means of information so people at least have an opportunity to know what they may have to deal with if they get that part. for example, a repop part has a slight gold tint to it instead of a highly chromed look. or maybe services that aren't all that good. there are lots of internet heroes out there providing services and/or parts that probably aren't getting reviewed properly based on being scared or they just don't care about others after receiving their own parts.

Speaking of which:

I had almost forgotten it was there. Might want to set the Display Options at the bottom to show threads from 'The Beginning'... or set to 'Show All Threads' in your CP options. Otherwise, it's slim picken's.

And I agree... I am as guilty as anyone of not contributing in that respect. Too distracted thinking about the next part/project I guess. I think it must be an addiction :scared:

Agree on the quality issues and sharing information.

I have often thought of sending mine off to be restored but could not bring myself to do it. I have it stuck in my head the restored part would not be durable enough for semi regular use... At least there is another option now for a 1969.:

What did RBB have to say about the photos?

The person I talked to said they didn't see anything wrong with it and implied that I was just being too picky.

I don't think it was the owner though.

Now that I have looked at the restoration jobs from other restores,

I see that I am not being picky and they should offer to redo it.

Along with the botched job they installed a deffective rim blow switch too.

The second one they replaced it with was also bad.

I am still trying to get a hold of the owner so I can talk to her about this.

Tell them that you are going to all the mustang and cougar forums with pics of their restoration job as well as the fact that they installed two defective switches and that this is what they should expect from the RBB.

If I recall correctly the person that owned the RBB business was ill & could not continue so he sold out to once of the employees that was doing the work. Than again I could be remembering something that did not occurs thus spreading wild rumors on the net.

Dave Prine, the original RBB did get very ill (I believe MS) and turned the operation over to Nate Brooks, who was one of his guys working there. Dave's wife Pam is the majority owner and Nate now does the restorations. In an email to me Nate referred to her as "the owner."

I read on one forum where a guy who logged on as the RBB claiming to be Nate said that Dave was his father. However, Nate's last name is Brooks, not Prine, so that post was most likely a hoax.

There are many reasons why someone might have a different last name than either their biological or adopted father so it is possible that it was not a hoax. Easier to believe when they do share a name but not implausible at all.

In the forum post purporting to be by Nate, he referred to Dave as "my dad.". In emails to me, he referred to Pam as "the owner" and "Pam," not "my mom." There is a disconnect there. In any event, what remains is that the quality is slipping.

Yeah I guess but still unless you know for sure that Dave was only married once and only had children with Pam it still isn't too hard to believe, for me anyway. Doesn't change the quality problems at all for sure though.

No, and I've got to say a DIY restoration attempt or repop wheel is looking more appealing all the time.

My wheel isn't in bad shape actually. Just one small crack and a less than stellar cosmetic resto by the P.O.

Maybe I'll just put a new switch in and buy a wheel cover and call it a day.

Or I could really cheap out and just keep the Grant wheel on there... :scared:

Several months ago, on another forum, there was a post from a guy at RBB. He did indicate the original owner was sick, but was still overseeing the restorations. I wouldn't be surprised if he just can't do this anymore. (If he does have MS, that can be an extremely debilitating disease.)

So, if the original restorer can no longer do the work, the new people are doing mediocre work, is there any alternative? I've seen re-pop rimblow wheels for '69 Mustangs from NPD. But I have a '70 with a rimblow that's in pretty bad shape.

And, indeed, thank you for sharing your experience. That's very helpful.

I have no experience with any of these guys.

A quick look around the net yielded a few hits:
