jnet4jt 10 Report post Posted April 4, 2011 AF 2002 - present, two trips to Iraq one to Kuwait. I'm a crew chief on AC-130's. just made E-6 so they stuck me in the damn office. I still get to sneak out and do some real work every now and then. Gotta say, I like being stationed in FL a lot more than Pope NC.
shelbyshelby 52 Report post Posted April 4, 2011 Kentucky Army National Guard 1/149th Infantry, mortarman. I guess I had some sort of midlife crisis in 2008, at 36 yoa, I always regretted not joining the USMC as a teenager. Back then I had important things to, mostly racing one of my mustangs. Got out of Basic Training with a pocket full of money and immediatley began looking for my dream mustang, 69 Mach 1. Found it a few months later and been busy with it every sense. Thanks to every soul ( and their famalies ) that has, is or going to be serving in the military, including Uncle Sam for funding my mustang habits. Uncle Sam Aint Released Me Yet, caps spell out us army. Backwards, Your Mental Retarded A$$ Signed Up. Just a little humor to end with.

Back in my ranger days we used to love having you guys circling overhead. It always made us feel good to know that much firepower was readily available. I also appreciate you guys lighting up the ground so we could see where the heck we were walking with our NVGs on. We were at your place doing rehearsals for what was supposed to be the invasion of Haiti and had the opportunity to get up close and personal with one of the Spectre a/c. I even bought a t-shirt from your store with the skeleton/minigun logo. I wore it so much I finally had to put it away in the memory box.

Had a B-52G from Blytheville (aircraft 6509) in the climatic lab Aug. - Oct. Also partied a lot wih AC-130 guys out of Hurlbert down in Panama through the mid and late 80s. Any old-timers around may remember one of our tankers out of Grissom crashing on the mountain at the end of the runway. It was maybe early 86, before we got the R model 135s. We have a couple of guys that have been here for a while and retired from the AF and started working various contracts. Small world

It is good to hear that our planes help out the guys on the ground. Leveling an entire village is kinda cool too. I originally worked on the old slicks out of Pope AFB (I think it is Pope Army Airfield now). Same workhorse aircraft but an entirely different mission. crstang 10 Report post Posted May 11, 2011 Spent my first station at Hurlburt Fld. as a Munitions System Specialist supporting the AC-130 Gunship, and the HH-53 Helicopter in the early 80's under Col. Robbi. Then off to Kunsan, :yinyang::nuke:Korea to support the LBFM & the 8th TFW F-16s Wolfpack for a year from 85-86. Next was Luke AFB, AZ for the F-16s for 3 1/2 years of intense heat, and lastly, to Bitburg, Germany for 2 1/2 years for the F-15s and Desert Storm/Shield where I had the responsibility of $50 Mil in munitions including Aim-9's, Aim 7's, and plenty of 20mm, Chaff and Flare to destroy and protect aircraft. We downed 16 of their aircraft, and had many come back with their share of bullet holes, but didn't lose any, but Langley, VA got 18 I believe. I opted to get out in late 92. :gun_bandana:The base closed 2 years later. Sad deal!! I had my fun, did my time, but miss the friends, fun, suds, and serving my country most of all. It'll never be the same.

Cupid 10 Report post Posted July 29, 2011 2 more years!:thumbup1: Started out as a Flightline Mechanic (Grease Monkey) on CH-46E helicopters out of the East Coast HMM 162. Floated on the USS Guam with 22D MEU. Came back and got picked up for an officer program. Va Tech bound, pinned on Staff Sergeant and then got my butter bars in 2010. Communications Officer was my next poision (9th Communication Bn). 2 Tours in Iraq, hung out in Korea. Went back to school and came out an even bigger nerd. (Operations Reseach/Analysis) from there, went to Albany, GA at USMC Logistics Base. If that wasn't enough geeking out, now i'm working in Cyber. Can't talk much about it, but it's dead sexy... Somehow I never pictured a US Marine with a Keyboard as a weapon, but it can be deadlier than any M16....:whistling:
