  1. Also check that your radiator isn't clogged up with scale and rust from inside the block. I had this problem with a Cleveland in an Aussie Falcon. I wound up having to replace the radiator. You could try back flushing it. Take the radiator out, turn it upside down and with a garden hose, flush it out from the bottom hose outlet. Alternatively, lay the radiator flat with the cap on and fill it with vinegar, leave it for a couple of hours and flush with clean water.
  2. I've recently changed over to Halogen headlights on my coupe. Mine were H4 dual filament for the outer headlights 60/55w xenon bulbs and H1 for the high beams with 55w bulbs. I've just added relays for both high and low beams and used the stock harness. The lights were much better. Later I will convert to real HIDs with ballasts etc for even better lights. The left lights fitted the housings but the right required a couple of cuts for the housings to fit. I wound up changing the headlight buckets on the right to Australian Fairlane ones which the housings fit perfectly. All up cost was $15 each for the H1 inner housings, $10 for H1 bulbs, $40 for the outer housings and bulbs and $10 for 2 relays
  3. I've just replaced both flasher units on mine the one near the glove box was turn signal the one drivers side was for emergency
  4. Replaced RH rear floorpan and started cleaning up surface rust on the floor under the seat platform.
  5. Thanks for the info and pics, guys. I was looking into whether there was reproduction trim for the quarters. The other option was to buy some vinyl and trimming them myself. I'm not a big fan of the plain steel.
  6. I have a 69 coupe with the standard interior with textured steel quarter trims. Is there any difference with the Deluxe/Grande interior quarter trims (vinyl covering, arm rests etc)? Can any one post some pictures showing any difference? Thanks Shaun
  7. Interesting that a 6" backspace will fit!! I have 15x10 aussie made Simmons wheels 6" backspace with 295/50/15 tyres. I hadn't even trial fitted them- just assumed they wouldn't as they didn't fit my XB falcon coupe..
  8. There is a mount for the shoulder belt as I've recently fitted 3 point retractable belts front and rear to my 69 coupe. The top mount is approximately 2-3 inches back from the top corner of the side window. Its pretty hard to find with the hood liner fitted.
  9. I bought the energy suspension bush kit but can't give any feed back as I haven't got that far into the build yet. However I've fitted similar urethane bushing kits to my Aussie Falcons and had no problems. Long lasting and takes out the slop in the suspension. There's an ongoing debate urethane vs rubber bushings but I lean toward urethane as long as they are installed correctly. Price wise the kit for my 69 coupe was only $85 front and rear from Summit.
  10. Mine are Scott Drake short pans (both rear and pax front) and all of them had to be bent up as the fold at the rocker panel was folded down. Other than that were a reasonable fit.
  11. For my last 351C I used closed chamber "aussie" 2V heads. The only mods were 4V exhaust valves and hardened valve seats. With a mild cam, electronic ignition and headers it made around 370hp and ran 13.8 @ 102mph down the quarter in a 3700lb Falcon. Personally I wouldn't touch the ports themselves just clean up around the valve guide area. To run pump fuel you will need to open up the combustion chamber as the compression will be around 11:1. As always it comes down to cost. Here in Aus, the 302 clevo heads are worth $50-100 and reconditioned with the mods described only cost $500 all up.
  12. Hi Rodney, I have a set of 295s on a set of 15x10 simmons I can trial fit on my car (69 coupe). The wheels have a 6 inch backspace so they may not fit properly but I can get some idea of clearances. If you have trouble sourcing tires I'm interested in selling the 295s. I had them fitted to the rims about 8 years ago but are virtually new- been lying around the shed without a car to fit them to. I'm not far from you- just the other side of Toowoomba.
  13. That was the way I was going to go. I'm currently wrecking out a s3 AU wagon that cost me $150..... Early 90's Fairlanes are cheap too, whole cars going on ebay for around $500-1000. Lots of cheap options to get the basic engine. Cheapest would be to fit my 351C, but the wife vetoed that one. I got "THE LOOK" and "remember, I have to drive it sometimes" and that was enough to frighten me out of the idea.
  14. I've shipped through usatoaus before on the slow boat and they were good with their freight charges. Might be worth the shop around in the states for heads etc. The other engine I was considering was the 5.0 from an AU Falcon. My daily is an AU series 3 XR8 ute and it goes well, in a car 400kg lighter it should be even better, just fit a carby and electronic distributor to make the conversion easier.
  15. Hi Ash, I've got one set on a 351 in my shed. These heads are basically stock apart from new 4V exhaust valves, hardened seats and bronze valve guides as I was running straight LPG in that particular car. The ports are untouched and on a mild straight LPG 351 ran 13.8 @ 102mph in street trim. A full reco including the changes outlined cost $600 about 8 years ago. I can't see the changes needed to make them fit on a windsor costing more than a couple of hundred dollars extra. I'm thinking along the same lines as you are as you can still find these heads for less than $100 if you look around or a complete 302C for $200-300.
  16. Thanks for the info, guys. Here in Australia the most common Ford V8's are the 5.0 fitted to later Aussie Falcons and Clevelands. I am reluctant to go with a Cleveland as its a heavy engine being fitted to a relatively light car- handling is more important to me than straight line speed. The main reason I was looking at the Boss style motor was to have the something a little different to the 5.0 implants that are very common here.
  17. I'm fixing the back up lights and fitting a relay on the starter circuit. Should be the last of the wiring:yes:.....for now:2guns:
  18. Hi All, I'm looking into engine options for my 69 coupe. It has a 302W fitted at the moment and I can get a set of Australian 302 cleveland 2V heads for free. These heads are 58cc closed chamber with stock 351C 2V sized valves and 2V port sizes. I've had good results with these heads on 351C's previously. I know I'll need a boss style intake and exhaust manifolds, pistons and the heads need mods to the water jackets. Does anyone have info on what else needs to be done to make this work?? More importantly, is it worth the trouble? I know that aftermarket heads are available for the 302 but they aren't cheap here in Australia Shaun
  19. Is it necessary to remove the seat platforms to change the floorpans? You can also get floorpan sections that just do forward and aft of the seat platform. Is this a better way of doing things? Floorpans are next on my to do list.
  20. Hi, all aussie falcons use the same bolt pattern. AU series 2 and 3 use a 287mm disc (series 1 use in integral hub) BA-BF falcon use a 298mm disc Also have a look at Ford Territory SUV discs- they use Falcon components and are a 322mm diameter disc rotor thats 28mm thick and the same 2 spot corvette callipers
