  1. Yeah I agree about the ones in a downtown or more populated area. The Madison, Indiana Riverfront Run car show is another good one like that. It was the last weekend in May. The times I stopped by the Queen City show it was not great weather so I was hoping it was just due to that. Being in a school parking lot away from people doesn't attract many spectators. I do agree about vintage cars though, it's too bad because they are out there. That's strange about the windows up... Are you saying they require people to roll up their windows in order to be judged? I have never heard of anything like that.
  2. Small correction, the Falls City club show is in Sellersburg, Indiana. I have never been to this one but I know someone who has. And then Queen City show I have stopped by as a spectator a couple of times over the years. This one just seems like an ok show. I just realized the Nuxhall Miracle fields show is that weekend so maybe I will take the car there instead. Any recommendations on your favorite shows or cruise ins in the area?
  3. thanks. If I can make it, I might go to the Queen City mustang club show coming up and maybe falls city mustang club show in Columbus Indiana.
  4. There is a slight ridge... enough you can catch your fingernail on it a little, but otherwise didn't seem too bad. I didn't see any scoring, but I'll give it a closer look once all the pistons are out. Probably in a couple weeks when I get back out to the shop. My father in law will be helping with this, as he has rebuilt plenty of engines before. I expect we'll clean the block, hone the cylinders, replace bearings, rings, clean the pistons, and if there is no damage to my heads they will get a valve job to make sure everything seats well. Along with anything else I am forgetting. 30k miles would be a lot for as little as I drive it. But yeah the search will be on after this for another block to build over the next few years. -Mike
  5. Thanks for the advice. Most likely because of timing and lack of money to throw at this, it will be what I think is called a poor man's rebuild. If the internals of the replacement block look good, it will likely just get cylinders honed, new bearings, and rings. I'm hoping my heads are still good. If so, I should be back on the road at the cost of an engine rebuild kit ($175?) Of course if the block doesn't look good and needs to go to a machine shop anyway, then I might consider spending the extra for a stroker kit. But I'm just looking for a car to cruise around in locally, not race. -Mike
  6. Thanks. Yeah, it was actually a few minutes after you left. It was actually a great show otherwise. Lots of good cars all around to look at.
  7. You mean I could put my 69 harmonic balancer on the 74 351w block? Wouldn't the engine be somehow unbalanced?
  8. Decided to start my own thread rather than intrude on the other similar ones. I am having some acceration issues when giving it gas from a stopped or slow (<10mph) position. As soon as I press the pedal a little, it hesitates for a second or two then finally starts going. A few times when pulling out of a parking lot, it died completely. At idle and when pressing the throttle in park the engine runs and sounds great. Looking for any ideas of what to check. 351w engine has been rebuilt in last couple years, new Holley 650 carb. Last summer the car ran well. I did end up having a bad distributor that I replaced. I also just recently took out points and put in a pertronix ii with the resister wire bypassed. I'm using a repro yellow top coil. Ever since the distributor went bad I have been trying to get it running right again. Any thoughts?
  9. Great picture. Thanks for posting it! The b-25 makes up for it not having a mustang in the picture! :)
  10. Can I ask why the choke wire should not be connected to the coil? Is this only for a setup where the coil is not getting 12v due to the resister wire? My electric choke is connected to my coil, but I bypassed my resister wire completely so I have 12v going from ignition switch directly to the coil. Of course I am also having some stalling problems myself only when accellerating from stop position. I'll be watching this thread closely. :)
  11. Flying in P51 sounds like it would be really fun! My grandfather was a gunner in WWII on a B-25 so I signed up to go for a ride on one in a couple weeks. I should also be able to get a picture of my '69 with the B-25 at some point in the day, too. It's a car show / fly in event. -Mike
  12. Has anybody used the 70 rim blow switch that is glued in offered by rim blow buddy? The one I did for my 69 was pressed into the ridges on the side with no glue. Curious how these glued switches fit and look compared to original. http://www.therimblowbuddy.com/our-store/70-to-73-horn-switch-assembly/ Edit: I am restoring a 3 spoke steering wheel for a 70 Torino cobra. Other than the center pad and inserts, it is very similar to my 69 mustang wheel. Mike
  13. No, but I was there briefly. I talked to Buckeyedemon for a couple minutes and didn't realize until later on there were other members next to him. I was the guy walking around with a couple kids in a double stroller. Tomorrow I would only have one with me if I am able to make it.
  14. I made it out to my local church show at Miami Whitewater on Saturday. How was the B-25 ride? Which plane was it? I may have crawled around in that one at the Dayton Air Show a year or two ago. My grandfather flew 52 missions as a B-25 tail gunner in WWII. It's on my bucket list to get a ride in one of them.
  15. I don't have a part number. I know there are two versions from Scott Drake, the big block and small block versions. I talked with someone from Scott Drake via Facebook and they were nice enough to special order me just the base and I paid around $210 including shipping. That was far cheaper than anyone else I could find and most required you buy the entire assembly. It also took about 2 months to get it in. I did have to find a shorter air filter. I found one at a local auto parts store and it was in their computer as being for a 428 car. Height was about 2.188 inches or so.
  16. Found the problem. The pivot plate (think that is what this is called) in the distributor was loose and not really returning back to where it should have. Removed the vacuum line to the distributor and the problem went away. The car doesn't perform as well without the vacuum line connected but the stumbling and misfire problem is gone. I think I am just going to return this distributor and get a new one since it shouldn't be doing this. -mike
  17. I have hearing only in one ear so I can't tell where the backfiring came from (can't localize sound), but I think it was through the exhaust. Engine is recently rebuilt with about a 1,000 easy miles on it. Brand new carb. The timing chain was not replaced but it was in good condition when it was rebuilt. The problem I have now with the stumbling is only when trying to maintain a steady speed. Accelerating is fine. No other problems or strangeness.
  18. So I'm still learning how to troubleshoot problems with my car. '69 351w, Holley 650 carb, performer intake, headers, and pretty much stock everything else. So a few weeks ago while driving (1hr into my trip) my car backfired very loudly. I thought a gunshot went off next to my head. I pulled over and couldn't find anything wrong, so I continued on. I did notice that when accellerating I had to push the pedal down more than usual to get it to pick up and go. Still continued to backfire at higher speeds. I eventually made my way to NAPA and picked up new points and replaced my coil with a spare I had on me. That got me back home and where I am today. It still backfires occasionally but not near as loud or noticable. When I am in park, if I slightly press the gas, the engine shakes and stumbles. A lot of gas, it sounds great. Same thing when driving--if I just lightly press the pedal to maintain a constant speed above 30, it just stumbled and hesitates. If I press the pedal down a lot more it accelerates fine and sounds great. If I let off the gas completely it is fine. Ideas on what this could be? And what I should check next? Timing?
  19. Looks good. If you saw a guy pushing a double stroller with a couple kids, that was me. :) I talked to Buckeyedemon for a couple min before I left but didn't realize others from the forum were right next to him! This did look like a good show... Next year I'll get my car out there too. Seems to be a lot of members on here in this area.
  20. Good looking group of cars. I'll be there with mine at the next one!
  21. I ended up ordering a new switch and just got it today. It seemed like my old one might have been too loose and just not working right. Hopefully this fixes it.
  22. People are crap bags sometimes. I hope you find them.
  23. Yeah it sure was easier to get to it when the dash and seats were not in the car! But I am still able to get to it now. I may try that first and see if I can stick something in there to make it contact sooner.
  24. I would go but my wife is out of town and I am not sure it's a good idea to try and fit a couple car seats in the backseat for my kids.
