Fender to Cowl Rubber Bumper

Recommended Posts

This is a rubber bumper that goes some where between the fender and cowl. I have read somewhere that it takes the place of the 2 close cell foam blocks that goes under the cowl vent that helps hold it up.

I think I read it on some parts distributors listing for the rubber bumper.

Anyway does anyone have pictures of where this part goes. I think that

I finally got the picture uploaded, sometimes its APITA.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Dave

Thanks guys for the info. Does anyone have a picture or diagram

as to where this bumper goes? Some of the listings that I have read

that has this part for sale says it goes between the cowl and fender,

but I don't know how or where it goes.

As always thanks for any help on this.

Dave

I thought I took pictures but I can't find them. I found this shot courtesy of Buckeye Demon. If you play around with it for a while, it eventually becomes clear how it fits over the sheet metal

I checked my 69 front fenders and didn't have the metal tab as shown in the pics above. I know the body shop switched out fenders because the original ones were warped. I am now wondering if these are 70 fenders? Any thoughts.

Thanks Mark

70 fenders are completely different 2 headlights versus 4 on the 69

I know that you knew this LOL.

Completely different? Um... pretty much the only difference is the side marker. The headlight buckets make the 70 a two headlight car.

I checked my 69 front fenders and didn't have the metal tabs as shown in the pics above. My fenders are OE w/vin & date stamps. Brian

I replaced both front fenders on my 69. The original fenders did have the metal tab but did not have the rubber bumper. The fenders were on the car when I got it but you could tell that they had been removed before because of loose and missing bolts, so I guess the bumpers could have been lost. My problem was I could not figure out how they go on. Even after seeing them in the picture how they go and putting them on my fenders I really don't see the purpose of them If your going to use the

close cell blocks.

BTW Bob I like your signature and it is so true.

Dave

Seems like it's more true when you don't have a pickup. Sold mine last week to an unsolicited guy diving down my street who offered me 25% more than I paid for it.

I know the headlight buckets are different between the years but wasn't sure if

the actual fender was different. It might be different. Just asking cause I am not sure and just trying to learn.

Thanks Mark

I don't know either Mark I was just being silly.

I knew you were aware of the head light difference.

Although looking at the pic's it looks as though the

head light inner structure is different and as Bob said

the marker light. I guess I got off course here being this tread

was about a rubber bumper. After putting this bumper where

the pic says it goes as I said I really don't see its purpose and

the thing doesn't really fit that well because it has a flat side

that looks like it should lay on a flat surface such as the cowl maybe.

Maybe something wrong with mine but it is actually cocked and does

not fit flat to the cowl. Something is just not right with it.

Thanks for your input friend

the flat side laid against the cowl on mine.

i think it helps space the cowl to the fender along with trying to maintain the fender height.

Thanks Buckeye

I'll keep working with, I noticed one thing about mine the passenger side tab seams to be higher than the drivers side. Yet both fenders are lined up to the door just fine. I guess it is the typical fitment problems with the

repo fenders. If I had my time to go over again I believe I would attempt

repairing my originals. I also replaced the doors with repo's and I know for sure if I had a redo on them I would put new skins on. May do that to the

passenger door yet because it really was bad. Had to put a 1/4" spacer between the hinge and door just to get the seam close enough at the quarter panel.

thanks Dave
