Question about M codes.

Ok I have a dilemma. My car is an M code but it says it was manufactured the 4th of October, 1969. First question is does this means they did produce Clevelands in 69? Second question is how can I tell what type it is? It has the 63b body code so it's a sports roof with luxury interior I think. I could just use some clarification. Thanks.

By October of '69, the 70 models were already starting to show up on dealer lots. Production switched over in early August, so something doesn't add up. I'd get a Marti report to find out for sure, or get the freebie version directly from Ford.

What is the first few letters of your VIN? Are you sure you have a 1969, or are you sure that date is correct?

M code in 69 is a 351 windsor 4V, is it not? 63B is sportsroof, but does not designate deluxe interior. Could be deluxe or standard.

Correct. For a 1970 car it is not that straightforward, as earlier cars received the windsor and then they switched to Clevelands.

The numbers are 9R02Mxxxxxxx and 63B Y 5W 04k 71 R 5. I'm going to get a marti report. I've already found out that 63b cant be a mach one. It's most likely a gt.

GTs are pretty rare. About 1500 of them vs thousands in plain jane versions.

Look at the thermostat housing. Is attached to the intake or the block?

If it's attached to the intake it's a Winsor if it's on the block it's a cleveland

Where are you getting that it was made Oct 1969? That would be after the production dates of 69 models.

If your date code is 04K, it was built October 4, 1968.

I don't know if this will help, but about 11 years ago, You could write the Ford Motor Company, and ask them about your vin number. If I remember right, it cost me 5.00, and they basically sent me the history of the car. I also found out from my state, who owned the car before I bought it. Again, that was a 10 dollar fee for that. I would say it took about a month and a half to get it from Ford, but it was worth every penny to me.

It was built in October 1968. I am guessing the production # is fairly low. The change over for model years is Sept. of the previous year. ANything built after Sept. is classified as the next madel year.
