alex 18 Report post Posted December 10, 2014 What options are available for replacing the factory front brake rotors on a 1969 351W with larger rotors? Is it possible to replace only the rotors and calipers? Oddly, this car has the larger 1970 wheel bearings.
Rsanter 152 Report post Posted December 10, 2014 Yes but you will find more aftermarket options available if you find a pair of stock front drum spindles Then there are a ton of brake upgrades available Bob
alex 18 Report post Posted December 11, 2014 Yes, from my research so far it appears that a common path is to convert from front drums to large front discs. However, wanting to minimize the parts that I replace, what options do I have for larger than factory front discs?

alex 18 Report post Posted December 11, 2014 Thanks. I had a moment to call them and was told that they do not have any larger disc options. Any other ideas out there for increasing the disc size without changing the spindle?
SM69Mach 68 Report post Posted December 11, 2014 Contact Shaun at Street or Track. He has a bracket that fits the disc spindle similar to the drum spindle to convert the larger Cobra Style brakes. I have had these on my car for years now and they work great.
alex 18 Report post Posted December 11, 2014 Good information. I talked to Shaun who was very helpful and also had great information. He mentioned that they no longer sell those particular brackets but instead market a kit that includes all necessary parts (rotor, caliper, hoses, bearings, etc). The kit (http://www.streetortrack.com/Street-or-Track-13x1.25-Rotor-4-Piston-Forged-Aluminum-Caliper-Brake-System-pr-24556.html) looks great, but the price is out of the range I would like to spend. Presumably if I was able to find just the brackets, I could do this for quite a bit cheaper and end up with the same system.
SM69Mach 68 Report post Posted December 12, 2014 Well that is a bummer. He was the only one that I knew of selling a Disc brake spindle bracket only.
alex 18 Report post Posted December 12, 2014 Wouldn't want to sell yours would you? :)

chillininnh 21 Report post Posted December 12, 2014 Saw this on Mustang Monthly online. Seems it may fit the bill, looked it up, costs $800. Looks like you can keep the disc spindle. http://www.mustangandfords.com/how-to/wheels-tires/1412-how-to-install-big-brakes-on-your-vintage-mustang/
SM69Mach 68 Report post Posted December 12, 2014 Wouldn't want to sell yours would you? :) Probably not the best idea for it to stay on the road :) I see you are in NC too...where abouts?
RogerC 136 Report post Posted December 12, 2014 Baer and Wilwood both have complete kits (plural) for disk spindles, probably too pricey for what you want. Might have oem replacement options. Stoptech might be worth looking into too.

Designed to fit the Aus Falcon spindle, which is the same as the 69/70 disc spindle
alex 18 Report post Posted December 19, 2014 Probably not the best idea for it to stay on the road :) I see you are in NC too...where abouts? It was worth a try. I live in western Cary. All the ideas that have been offered are great. I am sure this thread will be a valuable resource for anyone who is looking for a front rotor upgrade. I did try many times to contact Vintage Venom but perhaps due to the holiday there was no response. I will try again after the new year.
