jmlay 80 Report post Posted October 2, 2014 Are you sure the body code is 54A, this would indicate 4dr... 2a is black Vinyl Standard Interior.
69 red fastback 20 Report post Posted October 2, 2014 Going off of the numbers you are showing for the engine it is for a 68 fairlane
barnett468 418 Report post Posted October 2, 2014 (edited) engine is 68 and 69 302 mustang and 68 shelby. 54 might be omaha district delivery A = no clue Edited October 2, 2014 by barnett468
69 red fastback 20 Report post Posted October 2, 2014 WBODDE, Your numbers are 54A 1 2A 12L 53 3 W The 54 doesn't make sense because mustang never had a 54, they only had 65,76, or 63, yours being a coupe it would be 65, the A is for luxury interior. The next is for color, 1, are you sure it's not an I, because I cant find a 1 for color on a 69, but if it's an I it would be Lime Gold 2A, is for interior trim code, and your's would be Black Vinyl Bucks 12L, is for the day an month, your's is the 12th of November 53, is for DSO, (Domestic special order District Codes), your's Kansas City 3, is for Axle Ratio Code, so that makes yours a 2.79 W, is for Transmission Codes, so that makes yours a C-4 Auto and the 2nd (F) in your vin.# is for the engine code, so that makes yours a 302 2V I hope this helps
69 red fastback 20 Report post Posted October 2, 2014 Sorry the A after the 54 is for standard interior not luxury like I stated
barnett468 418 Report post Posted October 3, 2014 The 54 on the buck tag is NOT for the interior or body code. It is the DSO.
maxum96 32 Report post Posted October 3, 2014 Going off of the numbers you are showing for the engine it is for a 68 fairlane All 302's from 1968-197? have that same casting number. The Fairlane group paid for the engineering of the block. So if you got a 302 in a Mustang, Fairlane, Cougar, F100, etc they all have that same engineering number. 69 red fastback 20 Report post Posted October 3, 2014 I guess I'm confused, if the 54 with the A following it is the DSO then what is the 53 on the DSO stand for.
69 red fastback 20 Report post Posted October 3, 2014 Maxum96 If all casting # are the same from 68-7? then why does mine read D4DE- 6015 A, which is for a 1974 falcon/ maverick

So if you got a 302 in a Mustang, Fairlane, Cougar, F100, etc they all have that same engineering number. That's not 100% true, many of the San Hose cars like mine for example received a Mexican cast 302 which is a C8AM-6015-B block.

69 red fastback 20 Report post Posted October 3, 2014 rodbrady You should find the casting # behind the starter
Pakrat 1,043 Report post Posted October 6, 2014 BTW, where do you find the number on the engine block? I don't think my coupe has the original engine. Here's a pic of mine from the underside, this will only tell you if it is correctly dated for your car though not if it is necessarily the original engine. If you are lucky than the Consecutive Unit Number may be stamped on the top side of the block behind the intake manifold like below. This is how I know my Mexican 302 is the original to my car. 9R03F184613
WBODDE 10 Report post Posted November 16, 2014 Are you sure the body code is 54A, this would indicate 4dr... 2a is black Vinyl Standard Interior. Yes, that is what is on it.
Brian Conway 264 Report post Posted November 16, 2014 (edited) WBODDE; Yes, that is what is on it The door warranty tag should be the source for the info you are looking for. A picture of that door tag would go a long way in answering your questions. That tag is on the lower end of the drivers door.
