fordboy394 10 Report post Posted July 12, 2011 im looking to do the 70' bolt in window glass swap in my 69, does anyone know where to find glass ? what am i looking at price wise? Thanks !!
69RavenConv 286 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 The glass is reproduced for about $185 per side but the brackets are getting harder to find and more expensive. Craigs List, eBay, and swap meets are probably your best bet. Here's a set on eBay. The seller is a member here, you might try contacting him. http://tinyurl.com/6jmyf46 FWIW, I just repaired my glue-ins and I'm real impressed with the new urethane glue. LindenBruce 27 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 I think Mustang Unlimited has re-production 70 brackets available for sale. You might check with them. Also, the urethanes today are much better then than used to be. The secret is to get everything clean before you re-glue your windows. Bruce
69RavenConv 286 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 Thanks, Bruce, you're right! I didn't know they were reproduced and stand corrected. I learn something new every day. http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=CMB70+
LindenBruce 27 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 Oh I wasn't trying to correct anyone. I just remember seeing them there and posted it. You didn't know and as such were not able to post it. I just beat you to it dude. Haha Bruce
LiLMike 42 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 CJ Pony Parts has the complete kit for this swap. This is the one for the fastback. There is another one for coupes & convertables. When I do mine, this looks like the kit I will go with. It's $800 but includes glass and all regulators/brackets to do both windows. http://www.cjponyparts.com/DOOR-GLASS-CONVERSION-KIT-BOLT-IN-FASTBACK-1969-1970/p/DGK3/

CandyAppleRed 10 Report post Posted July 14, 2011 Hooray for the new urethane glues!!! How am I ever going to sell my old glue-in brackets and regulators if everyone keeps switching to bolt in glass :P
SM69Mach 68 Report post Posted July 14, 2011 I did this swap a couple of years ago and bought the glass from these guys. http://www.psautoglass.com/store/Scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=183 Also ended up buying a new windshield from them as well. I also bought the production brackets from Mustangs Unlimited since I don't have the patience to work on the glue in windows. One of the best swaps I ever did on the car. Good luck. LiLMike 42 Report post Posted July 14, 2011 Hey SM69Mach, Notbad. I just browsed your link. $1500 for all new glass. Not bad...have to keep that in mind.
TexasEd 190 Report post Posted July 14, 2011 $1055 if you get all green tint. Will a '70 bolt-in glass work in a '69 glue-in bracket?
CandyAppleRed 10 Report post Posted July 14, 2011 $1055 if you get all green tint. Will a '70 bolt-in glass work in a '69 glue-in bracket? Nope. The bottom of the bolt in glass is quite different from the glue in.
rangerdoc 22 Report post Posted July 14, 2011 Hey SM69Mach, Notbad. I just browsed your link. $1500 for all new glass. Not bad...have to keep that in mind. Or $30 for a tube of new glue! Like the others said, the new stuff on the market is waaaaay better than in the past. I redid my windows a few months ago and it was no problem. Heck, even the cheap stuff that was in there before lasted 15 years. I'd rather reglue windows every 15-20 years than fork out the money for a bolt in setup. Think of all the really cool stuff you could buy with the money spent on a new window setup vs new glue. Don't do it!!!! Just messing...do whatever floats your boat. Good luck. rangerdoc 22 Report post Posted July 15, 2011 If you hold out until Labor Day you might get lucky with one of their bigger sales. It seems like a while since they did a 20-30% sale.
stangs-R-me 120 Report post Posted July 17, 2011 If you have a fastback, the only advantage of bolt-in glass is the fact that it is bolt-in. If you have a '69 Hardtop or Conv. then you also gain the much improved vertical sealing that moves from the door glass to the quarter glass. This alone made the swap worthwhile on my car ... no more snagging clothing or worse slicing open your arm when shutting the door as that sharp trim can get you when you don't expect it !!
