69isfine 10 Report post Posted February 28, 2010 I am looking for a recommendation on where to buy these? Why are the ones for earlier models less expensive?
Fordrevhead 29 Report post Posted February 28, 2010 The earlier ones are much simpler (from a mold standpoint). But mostly they've been making them so much longer, I would venture to guess that the re-tooling has been paid for so they drop the price to move them volume wise and still make plenty of $. foothilltom 33 Report post Posted February 28, 2010 Are we talking about the rubber shields that cover the head lamps in the fender wells? I need one of those as well. I seem to recall having trouble finding these on the big vendor websites.
tony 63C 14 Report post Posted February 28, 2010 I'll need to eventually get these as well. I haven't gotten to that end of my restoration project yet, nor researched into these. splash shield But I knew that the present set up where you can see the back of the headlamp from inside the wheel well can't be correct. StephenC 10 Report post Posted January 6, 2011 CJPonyParts.com is always who I use and always who I recommend http://www.cjponyparts.com/SPLASH-SHIELDS-1969/p/M315/ Also I believe I have a factory pair sitting in my garage somewhere its missing the front pass. side splash shield though if you would be interested in those. I would have to see what condition there in though.
Jayru 17 Report post Posted January 6, 2011 Why does one need the rear splash shields? They seem pretty pointless since there's nothing in there and would only trap gunk in there?
tony 63C 14 Report post Posted January 6, 2011 Without them there would be a strange looking gaping open area behind the front wheels. Providing that they fit properly these actually prevent the build up of debris and dirt. Some crud inevitably gets in there over the years, so if you drive your car lots, in the rain or on unpaved roads then a periodic cleaning is wise. Three screws and they’re out in a jiffy. T. LindenBruce 27 Report post Posted January 6, 2011 And that constant exposure to moisture and mud will only accelerate rust. And that's the LAST thing we want right? Modern vehicles have much better rust treatments than our old beasties. Bruce
Jack 10 Report post Posted January 8, 2011 i bought new ones and found them slightly thicker than the originals. The area that contacts the inside of the fender is too stiff and might have to be thinned out to be more flexible
LindenBruce 27 Report post Posted January 9, 2011 Heat that area of the splash shield with a hair dryer to get it to mold to your application. That will create a tighter fit and allow less debris to get past as everything flexes as you are driving. Bruce
Jack 10 Report post Posted January 9, 2011 thanks for the suggestion, I didn't even think of heating them to soften. I do like the fact they are thicker, the originals took a few blows

I couldn't find any pictures online but Brian Conway posted a picture of what I needed. I wasn't sure how the splash shields in front of the headlights were to be installed. But thanks to his picture, I have a rough idea of how it should be installed. 1 RPM reacted to this

Just FYI, as far as I remember front splash shield for 70 is not same as one for 69 but similar, Brian's photo should help you install a 70 shield.
