kllerbee 10 Report post Posted July 17, 2009 Well , I cut out some more rust. I will try to get the outer wheelhouse lower quarter and the rocker end closed up this coming weekend. this pic is kind of intimidating:scared:, but I had to do the same thing on the passenger side. I have found that a guy spends more time disecting and preparing metal than actualy welding. I will try to get more pics up this weekend.
GT350 16 Report post Posted July 17, 2009 Good stuff ,alot of time goes into prepping/cutting etc etc the welding bit is easy good luck with your 69 .javed

kllerbee 10 Report post Posted July 25, 2009 Well been very busy on this, I finished the lower quarter near the door and was cutting a template for my rocker end with a piece of cardboard on the other side of the car when I saw my worst nightmare. My new metal had rust on it. It has been very humid here lately and it must have crept in to the garage. So I quickly finished the rocker end, cleaned up all of the car, stripped the roof and the rear half of the car down to metal and shot some self etching primer on it. Wow what a difference, the primer is black but I like it. I think I may change my mind on the color. I was leaning toward an electric blue but now I dont know. Gloss black maybe? jonnybee 10 Report post Posted July 28, 2009 :thumbup:Very impressive body work for a first go! I would be proud to get those results doing it alone in a home garage. Looks like its made easier with a rotisiere. I will have to invest in one. keep posting the pics. Thanks

Once the car is on it properly you can turn it over to work on with one hand. I have seen many plans for them on the internet, but by the time the materials get added up, I decided to just have one delivered. The only set back I have found is that a hood can not be installed to check bodylines while the car is on the twirler. :001_huh:
kllerbee 10 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 I have to say I am extremely happy with how my sheetmetal came together. I would also say that I am very fortunate that before I started this, I watched a "how to" video series called paintucation by Kevin Tetz. In the body pannel replacement video (that I have watched about 40 times) he did the step by step replacement on a 70 mach 1. I highly recomend this series to anyone contemplating doing this for the first time as I know, had I not watched this video I would have had different results. Knowledge is also a tool. jonnybee 10 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 Thanks again for the advice. Could you please guide me on how to get a copy of the video as I have got some serious work ahead of me?
kllerbee 10 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 The videos can be found at www.eastwood.com and search "paintucation" I bought the 7 dvd set but if you are just doing pannel replacement they do have a video just on that. All of the dvds are very informative.
jonnybee 10 Report post Posted August 2, 2009 Thanks Kllerbee. I have just ordered the 7 DVDs as suggested. Can't wait to watch & learn from them. I have modified cars before (replaced a 4 cylinder with a V6 & a 9" rear in a Ford Escort Panel Van 30 years ago) but never did much panel work like I am contemplating on my Sportsroof. I have a friend who is restoring a '68 Mustang coupe and will find these DVD's handy.:thumbup1:
69RavenConv 286 Report post Posted August 2, 2009 Kevin Tetz has also got his own website at http://www.paintucation.com I bought a 4-DVD set (Paint, Metal Prep, Color Sanding, Body Shop Basics) and they are really good for amateurs like me. He's got a nice teaching style and pace. Plus he's got a killer mullet.
kllerbee 10 Report post Posted August 2, 2009 Your welcome jonnybee, they may seem spendy but are well worth it. That mullet could only be topped by David Spade in the movie "Joe Dirt". Kevin cut it off though. I had one for a while, but wrap it around a crawler wheel or in a drill and :surrender:!
69RavenConv 286 Report post Posted August 2, 2009 That mullet could only be topped by David Spade in the movie "Joe Dirt". Kevin cut it off though. Ah, I suppose he would have by now. It was obvious my DVD's (purchased 2 years ago) were dubbed from VHS tapes so I assumed the content was rather old. The material covered remains valid though, so I was pleased. Still, the mullet was amusing ...
