  1. Hi Bob and Sue, I had to replace my compressor last year. I used an R134 compressor from CJ Pony parts and found the price quite reasonable. I had to order the separate mountng plate as well. As usual shipping is a bit costly but I was in the US and had it shipped to my hotel. Certainly added to my checked baggage weight. I had new hoses made up and the system gassed by a mobile aircond guy. He was very good but cost about $500. I still have the rest of the componants unchanged (R12). The system is still good but definately not as cold as a modern system.
  2. Thanks for that. Very appreciated.
  3. Thanks for that. I wish I had this link before I ordered the Lokar cable as I would have prefered to keep a rod. Because of the time to ship from the US I wanted to get it ordered strait away. Bugger. I still may go down this path in the future if I'm not happy with the cable.
  4. Thanks for that. Not quite sure what you are describing with the flat bar but have ordered a Lokar cable. Seems a good way to go. As far as the carby goes, I used the number on the body and asked on the forum in another post and was told it was a 650. I know very little about Holleys. I always thiught the car was underpowered but I'm starting to think I've never had full throttle. Can't wait to get it back on the road in the next few weeks.
  5. Thanks for that. I must have done a crappy search. Ordering one now.
  6. Looking at the Summit and Lokar cables they supply them for a C4 or C6 but don't list for an FMX. Does anyone know if a C4 cable will fit an FMX. I have no idea what the difference between the two is.
  7. Hi Danno, I have PMed you with PayPal details. Have you received this? Thanks, Mal.
  8. Thanks for that I will have a look.
  9. Inexperience and relying on others in my case. I will only make that mistake once. But I have learnt a lot about Mustangs in the process so it's not all bad. Glass half full or the correct sized glass.
  10. How long have you been on this project? It's very impressive.
  11. Thanks for that. I will see if I can get a new kickdown rod and order the new carb assembly from CJ. Just considering whether to go down the Lokar path. Gets a bit pricey with USD ans shipping.
  12. End of day 40. Engine and tranny in. Exhaust hooked up. Radiator in. Plumbing from steering to pump conected. Have had some troubles with the kick down rod. Will only allow the throttle to about 1/2 way. Finished off the front suspension. Now trying to hook up the transmission cooler lines. They are going to need a bit of modification to get past the steering rack. I bought a used tail shaft as mine was too rusted. It is 12mm longer than the origianal and won't fit. Need to get another. I'm sure the place I bought it will exchange it without a problem. Just a hasle to get there. Lost of little things causing grief. All solvable but they are slow going.
  13. Thanks for that. I think that will do the trick. I need to get a new rod. My one is so bent it looks like it will fold up.
  14. Thanks Barnett, I just went and tried that. Still no good. I think I might need to do some bending further along as it hits the firewall.
  15. Hi guys, In the process of putting my car back together and discovered a problem with the kickdown rod. I am running a 351 Cleveland, 650 Holley with an FMX. The rod has been significanty bent by the previous owner. I have know idea what it is supposed to look like but it doesn't look good. The issue is that with the rod connected I can only get 1/2 throttle. I don't beleive I have changed anything when putting it back together so assume it has always been a problem. Never was a real power house but I thight I was getting full throttle before. Maybe not. First photo is in idle position Second shows the amount of rod movement Third photo is full throttle and max rod movement. What are my options with replacing or repairing it?
  16. It's taken me a lot of restraint not to name and shame. Having said that if I new what the car was actually like I would have still bought it as I wanted one to be able to restore and the price was good. But when you pay a lot for an inspection you expect to know what you are dealing with. Would also have assisted with negotiating the price.
  17. When I arrived at the shipping terminal it was pretty much what I expected. Starting it was another thing. I took a new battery and some fuel but it turned out to have an alarm with engine disabler. Finally just as I was about to get a tow truck it was the very helpful dock worker who found the remote button on the key chain and suggested pressing it. What a relief. It looked every bit as good as I expected. Driving it home was a little different. Many years since I had driven an old school car. Four wheel drums are pretty scary. Got pulled over by the Police half way home. Soon as he realised I had a temporary rego he was only interested in the car and escorted me most of the way home. Turned out to be a pretty nice guy. A week later I fitted power front discs. Best thing ever.
  18. It's disappointing when you pay a lot of money to someone with a supposedly good reputation and the only negative comment was "it could do with a tidy up underneath". I am just lucky I could do the repair myself or I would have been up for some serious money.
  19. Hi Danno, It appears your message box is full as it won't accept PMs. Thanks, Mal.
