EastYorkStang 63 Report post Posted October 13, 2018 The hurst shifter on my T5 is too close to the dash on the 1,3,5 position. I'm thinking about cutting it and rewelding it so it sits better. Never welded one before so want know if it's feasible. Prefer to modify this one rather then just buying another.
unilec 57 Report post Posted October 13, 2018 I remember a long time ago making a bracket such as this one to preposition a T5 shifter in a 65 mustang, not sure if you can do the same.
BuckeyeDemon 211 Report post Posted October 13, 2018 It's metal, so it should be no different than anything else. clean the metal in the weld area (e.g. remove plating) and weld.

Vicfreg 773 Report post Posted October 20, 2018 I bought a few vintage, used Hurst Shifters on Ebay. I cut the ends off to the length I wanted, and then drilled the 2 holes in the bottom to mate up with the T-5. You can actually try this with a 1/2" piece of plywood, and make a template that fits the way you like. Then find a shifter to match....
Vicfreg 773 Report post Posted October 20, 2018 Oh, this is a picture of one I cut and modified. Installed on my '68 coupe.
mustangstofear 608 Report post Posted October 20, 2018 The way we designed our shifter, it eliminates the problem you have. Your shoulder should still be against the seat in 1 3 and 5.
