~ 1969 Firewall Pad Grommets

Feeling defeated right now! I cannot get the firewall grommets thru the hole without popping the top off the grommet. I've used rubber grease and all sorts of utensils and it still. Won't work.

Are they for the heater hoses as i bought the grommets for the firewall and they don't fit .

They are 70 models and mine  just go through and have sealer around them where the come out of the firewall.

It takes two people, take an old screw driver and grind the end round, WD40 or similar lube (even soap).  While you insert have other person try to grab with pliers the outside to pull through.

I actually installed 2 pads (don't ask) one from cj's and one from NPD.  Although the pads where similar the npd fasen might have been better or I became experience with those pins the second time.  I think I may have used some of the original which where best

Maybe they grommets are cheaper....but at least I got one on today. Try the other tomorrow. I ended up removing at little of the jute that surrounds the holes.

I used 3m adhesive spray to hold it up, then came back and installed the inserts. Silicone as a lube

After almost 2weeks , I have one Grommet installed (undamaged) . Lol.

it looks like the small section under the steering column is attached wth 2 screws(and maybe a big washer?)

To the left of the column uses 2 screws with large flat washers

Raven, here's the way I conquered those clips. I used s small string from the inside of a piece of paracord. Tie it to the tit end of the grommet and it'll pull thru without breaking the grommet.
