Shock tower baces

Recommended Posts

I've read discussions before, but thought I'd get some feed back.

I have the braces that wrap the shock towers.  I understand these were a big block item of which I don't have, numbers matching Mcode).  Could this be something a PO could have added

It is possible they were added by a PO, but not very likely.  The best way to see if they are indigenous to your car is to see if the partial VIN at the top of each tower matches your car's VIN.  It will most likely be covered by several layers of paint so you will need to clean that off with paint stripper.  B.

Cool.  Based on your pic and looking at the welds, I would put money those are factory shock towers.  Sometimes non standard parts made their way onto our cars due to supply shortages.  This may be the case with your car.  Can you tell of the front clip has been changed?  B.

My old 69 M code Mach 1 had the big block towers also ,we think ford may have been running short and they used big block towers .A friend had a 69 convert with one big block on the driver side and the small block on the passenger side and they were never changed ,so ford was probably using what they had to to finish a car , They were both San Jose cars .

The reinforcement was only standard on big block cars, as some have stated Ford used what was available when putting these cars together. Out of 3 cars near me (all M code) only 1 has the reinforced towers, and unfortunately mine is not the 1 lol. So don't feel left out RPM.

Edit; But For some reason alot of cougars have em. Go figure.

PS. I believe all the GT350's got em also.

Typically I have seen the 351c cars have the big towers.

Not all 351w cars had them

Point well taken Bob. I should have said for the 69 model's in my post, as 90% of the cars I've dealt with are 69's, and of those the big block towers with 351w'are a rarity. I could see Ford upgrading to the big block towers along with the bigger spindles in 70 and that would make sense. That'll teach me to be a little more specific lol. Thx Bob
