Chris'69Mach 23 Report post Posted January 28, 2014 OMG .... is there any metal on your car that doesn't need replaced or repaired? WOW ..... Simply wow! GL with it. It is looking a lot better, that is for sure!
my70stang 10 Report post Posted January 28, 2014 yeah I know a real basket case. I pretty much told them to replace any and all metal that was rusted. This way I know the car will be solid when done and should last another 40-50 years. Plus I couldn't resist saving a convertible since there aren't that many running nowadays. Chris'69Mach 23 Report post Posted January 28, 2014 I hear you ..... I cant fathum how much $ you are going to have tied up in metal work repair/replace. I am just flabbergasted on how much attention and metal it needs. Really big project. But once you start putting her back together, it will be well worth it IMHO. :punk::rockon:
my70stang 10 Report post Posted January 28, 2014 I actually think I am ahead of the game cost wise. Been reading many forums that show cars that were just as bad but they paid like 10K-15K for it and then had to replace much of the same panels. I only paid $700 for the car. 70Nightmare 20 Report post Posted January 28, 2014 Welcome and your car reminds me of my 70 fastback that need metal work. The shop quoted me 15-20k to me that could buy me a nice solid body. Good luck
Mike65 476 Report post Posted January 28, 2014 Welcome. I only have a 1 car garage that shares space with my woodworking machines, so I have to do most of my work outside, so not much gets done this time of year. I guess that is why it is taking me years to get it done.
69RavenConv 286 Report post Posted January 29, 2014 Wow, like the others have said, that's quite a project you've taken on. Glad to see another 'vert saved, though. They only made 7,820 of them in 1970. Welcome!
my70stang 10 Report post Posted January 30, 2014 "They only made 7,820 of them in 1970" This is one of the main reasons why I chose to restore the convertible. I know it will cost a lot to replace the metal but once they are done it should last another 40-50 years.
