maxum96 32 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 You should be able to run a 255/60 on a 15x7 or 15x8 without rubbing or rolling fender lips.
xplane 10 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 I agree with maxum, the Specialty Wheels are very nice. I plan to run that exact setup. 15x7 4.25" bs with 245/60-15 T/A fronts, and 15x8 5" bs with 255/60-15 T/A rears. Slight stagger in diameter (half an inch) front to rear, and almost half an inch wider section width. Mike
BuckeyeDemon 211 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 does everyone who has 235's or larger on the front have power steering? mine is setup for manual steering with a 16:1 box. i'm a little concerned about steering effort in tight situations.
xplane 10 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) Buckeye, I had the 235/60-15 on a 67 sb fastback with that steering box. This was my daily driver for 3 years, and I had no problems with it besides the excessive play on center. I had a slightly smaller than stock steering wheel and it did take some effort in parking situations, but I never even considered adding power. Are you using the OEM rim blow wheel? Both my 69 Mach and 70 fastback have TCP racks, one manual and one power and I love the precision and quality of both. I would never go back to a stock box unless it was a restoration. fastwayfirebird400 14 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 Hey Buckeye do you know anyone with a Percy Wheelrite gauge ? You could mimic the wheel/tire/backspace combo and see if it rubs. If not PM me.
maxum96 32 Report post Posted February 3, 2011 I just went out and was looking at the my rear wheels. I don't know if the 5" backspace would work with a 275 wide tire. Where the problem comes in is the bottom inside edge of the wheel well. It's very close there now. I had to dimple mine on this car and I vaguely remember having to do it on my previous 70 with a set of Magnum 500's. You could always get a bfh and beat on the wheel well. But I don't think that's any better than rolling the fender lip
BuckeyeDemon 211 Report post Posted February 4, 2011 I appreciate all the feedback. It was enjoyable looking at all the nice mustangs. I'm still a bit undecided. I still have a few months before the car is reassembled. As of today (and it changes periodically), in order of preference: 1. 215/65/15 and 235/60/15 2. 235/60/15 and 245/60/15 3. combination of above i have a word document collecting all the pictures acquired (if at least a size was provided and the car met the criteria of magnums and BFG Radial T/A's). if you are interested in that document let me know. I'll first need to get approval from those providing pictures through email. here are some stats.
EastYorkStang 63 Report post Posted February 7, 2011 I have 17X8's on my car with 235 and 255's. The magnums came from Specialty and although I am happy with the design, the workmanship is crap. Started rusting weeks after I got them. To their credit Specialty gave me a another pair to replace the worst ones but they are rusty now as well. And yes I did talk to them regarding caring for them. Darryl
Burn 14 Report post Posted February 8, 2011 (edited) I'm running 235/60/15's on the front and 255/60/15 on the rear. The wheels I have are original 15x7 Magnum 500's with 4" BS. My car is lowered in the front 1" with lowering springs and 1" in the rear with the mid eye leaf springs. I'll try and post a profile picture of my car this weekend. The rear really squats and looks low with 20 gal of gas in the tank. Check out My Project pix's. There is a decent profile picture of my car on a flatbed hauler. TexasEd 191 Report post Posted September 27, 2011 Can anyone post a side by side of 14" and 15" Magnums? I found a set of 14" Magnums with Lee Radial G/T Turbo Action tires mounted for ~$650 I've really wanted to get 17" or at smallest 15" but this is tempting from a budget standpoint.
