ashleesmach1 28 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 I am in the process of changing all the standard light bulbs in my 69. Interior and exterior except of course the headlights. They are halogen lights. Has any one done the whole car? I have used Hipoparts as my led sourse. I have found that any of the 631 sockets will take an 1156 bulb as well. In my car there are 8 194 Blue, 4 194 red, 2 194 amber, 2 194 green, 7 1156 white, 3 1895 white, 2 1895 blue, 1 1895 Red, , 2 1895 Amber, 1 1816 white, 1 1004 white, 1 256 Red, 1 1893 white. As you can see I'm not finished yet. The ones marked with LED have beed replaced with LEDs. I did not want the sequential light or super brights in the tail light so I went with standard LED bulbs. They look good too. Chime in and tell me what ya'll done so far. here is my layout: 1969 FORD Mustang Mach 1 Outside lights Low beam headlamp - H5006 Halogen High beam headlamp - H5001 Halogen Front side marker light – 2-194ALED AMBER Rear turn signal, Tail light, Stop light – 2-1157LED RED Rear side marker – 2-194LED RED License plate - 67/97 WHITE, 631, or 1156 Back up light – 2-1142 WHITE shud be 1156 Front Parking light, Front turn signal – 2- 1157A AMBER Hood scoop turn signal light - 2 – 1895 Amber Not needed if u have shaker scoop Interior lights Instrument panel-general – 8-194LED BLUE Hi-beam indicator – 1-194 LED RED Directional signal indicator – 2-194LED GREEN Dash Brake warning – 1-194LED RED Under dash lights – 2 – 631, or 1156LED White Sail Panel Light – 2-631 or 1156? 69gmachine 15 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 I'm not planning to switch anything over to LED, but I did install H4 outer low/high beams, and the H5001 inner sealed hi beams. I actually like the warm look of the old incandescent bulbs, but I'd love to see how everything turns out on your car. Pictures are hard to do lighting justice, but post your comparison of before and after. Who knows, maybe I'll change my mind someday.

DarkSnowman 10 Report post Posted March 7, 2010 Sorry, I didn't quite have the chance to see any pictures before they disappeared. Would it be possible to upload them again? I've got a 69 Coupe and planning out everything and was greatly considering doing all LED's on the car (heh, not underglow by any means) Would love to hear back from you. Thanks -Marcus

Angel 24 Report post Posted March 8, 2010 I also did all LEDs on the exterior except for the back ups and headlamps. I love them. I bought the actual LED tail lamp kit though.

NJ_Bob 10 Report post Posted March 9, 2010 Are those single bulb tailights bright enough? I keep seeing all of those 80 light circuit boards that are being sold for the taillights because they feel that the single bulbs aren't difuse enough or bright enough... 69RavenConv 286 Report post Posted March 9, 2010 Are those single bulb tailights bright enough? They're comparable to conventional 1157 bulbs. Trouble is, those are not bright by today's standards. If you browse eBay for 1157 LED bulbs, you'll see they are all actually arrays of many LEDs - upwards of 20 or 30. Obviously, you want a lot to get the brightness up. One thing to keep in mind, the old-fashioned flasher modules in our cars won't work with LED turn signals because LEDs don't draw enough current. I'm currently designing my own 3-bulb conversion using LED bulbs. It involves a high-wattage resistor on the blinker side to get the current high enough to blink. I'll post the results if it works. Angel 24 Report post Posted March 10, 2010 LED light is directional. Those 1157 LED bulbs aren't the best way to go IMO. From behind they just look like one big red dot as opposed to lighting up the entire tail lamp. I would recommend buying a conversion kit with circuit boards, they look MUCH better and are more efficient. Raven is right about the flashers. Our cars use thermal flashers so they won't work if you use LEDs on the back AND the front. However, if you only do the back, they should work. They did on my car until I put LEDs in the front turn signal. Then I had to buy a special LED flasher, which was like $15. Not sure if the thermal flashers will work with front LEDs and rear filament bulbs.
