Cantedvalve 128 Report post Posted December 1, 2017 So here I am busting my ass to get the vinyl on the bottom of the driver seat. I finally have it to a point where I need to put in the listing rods... but where are the listing pockets that the rods go in? There were two on top of the vinyl, and there are supposed to be 4 on the bottom (L R F B) and there are none. Are you kidding me? Has anyone else run into this? 69ShelbyGT350H 61 Report post Posted December 1, 2017 I believe there are only 2, at last on the 69 seat. They go on the sides to help create the side bolsters.
Ridge Runner 1,113 Report post Posted December 1, 2017 I seem to remember three ,one near the front but it has been a while since i did 69 seats
69ShelbyGT350H 61 Report post Posted December 1, 2017 I will pull my seat out tomorrow and look at it to see how many it actually has .
BuckeyeDemon 211 Report post Posted December 1, 2017 is this for the high back bucket? if so, i think i took detailed pics of where are the wires went.
Cantedvalve 128 Report post Posted December 1, 2017 Mine definitely has channels on all 4 sides. I checked the passenger seat (still intact) just to be sure. The new vinyl doesn't have them.
Bob & Sue 110 Report post Posted December 1, 2017 I'd give Cal-Mustang a call they may have an easy solution. I don't remember if that channel was there or not we may have secured it with upholstery rings.
Cantedvalve 128 Report post Posted December 1, 2017 I actually sent messages to both Cal-Mustang and Distinctive. Distinctive told me to talk to Cal-Mustang. Cal-Mustang checked with Distinctive and they intentionally do not put listing channels on the bottom edges of the upholstery. I think what I am going to do is put a wire in the overlap area (poke a small hole, slide wire in). Knowing that they are correctly made allows me to finish the seats. So far they look GOOD. Just checked my 69 highback (Deluxe) seat bottom and think there might actually be 3 listing rods. Will report back when I find the one that I have apart. 69ShelbyGT350H 61 Report post Posted December 2, 2017 2 listing rods and a thicker rod that is attached to the front edge.
69ShelbyGT350H 61 Report post Posted December 2, 2017 And I have to correct myself now that I found the seat material. 3 rods.
Cantedvalve 128 Report post Posted December 2, 2017 Mine definitely has channels on all 4 sides. I checked the passenger seat (still intact) just to be sure. You can see the sides and front in the first photo (marked by rust), and in the second I had to fold back the vinyl to see the back listing pocket. All have wire in them. I did get a response from Distinctive (through Cal-Mustang) and they don't put listing rod pockets at the bottom edges of their vinyl. I put some wire in the stitched overlap (where I was hog ringing it anyway) and that worked very well.
Cantedvalve 128 Report post Posted December 2, 2017 So I did the seat back, but it didn't turn out as well as the bottom. The big issue is the horizontal listing wire just under the front of the headrest area. I got it secured, but... well look It is as if the fasten point is lower than the bolsters will allow. This makes it bunch up.
Cantedvalve 128 Report post Posted December 3, 2017 Okay, on the foam there were two channels for that horizontal listing. I chose the lower one as it felt like there was a better chance to anchor to something there. However, it appears that the original anchored higher. So I'm pulling this apart and redoing it. 69ShelbyGT350H 61 Report post Posted December 3, 2017 Interesting, when I took my covers off I found the formed wire in the lower position. Mine is a 69 seat, they sometimes have a red strip in that area. Yours appears to be a 70?
Cantedvalve 128 Report post Posted December 3, 2017 And late 1970 at that. Mine was built in June of 1970. iI can't tell you how much my arms and hands hurt... but it's a good hurt.
Cantedvalve 128 Report post Posted December 4, 2017 Oh man... I can barely type. I did get the cover unhooked and rehooked to the top channel. Looks much better. I will get some pictures later. It's not perfect, but for my purposes it is more than adequate.
Cantedvalve 128 Report post Posted December 5, 2017 Here are my seats side by side. There s probably a way to eat the wrinkles next to the piping on th seat back. I just don't know what it is
