Raven R code 281 Report post Posted April 11, 2017 I have the shifter detached from my tranny housing. I noticed a steel "spring" type clip that has one side broken. The pencil is pointing to the clip in question. Any idea what this is and if it is a problem? If it something that needs replacing, what is the name of the pet and where can I get a new one? The car shifted fine before I removed this piece. You probably need to be very familiar with the top loader to understand or know what you are looking at. thanks! 1969_Mach1 333 Report post Posted April 11, 2017 Unless originality is the primary concern, most swap out the Ford shifter for a Hurst Competition Plus shifter. It fits through the original opening in the floor.
Brian Conway 264 Report post Posted April 11, 2017 The broken part/assembly is called the ' reverse détente '. Some vendors sell it and mine came from Bill Heely. Brian

1969_Mach1 333 Report post Posted April 11, 2017 I use to think original was best. Now I don't care so much anymore. Original is great unless its worn or broke to where is doesn't function as good as it should.
