Raven R code 281 Report post Posted February 21, 2017 I'm planning on getting the 428 water pump rebuild kit from dead nuts. Does anyone know how these Bearings come apart? Also, after taking off the back cover, I noticed there is a hairline crack in one of the bolt holes. Should I be worried? My feeling is if I RTV the back cover, it should seal up fine. 5 napedVem, ncdruroSor, Siburthuts and 2 others reacted to this
1969_Mach1 333 Report post Posted February 21, 2017 I wouldn't mess with rebuilding it. Get a new water pump, not a rebuilt one. If it is the original water pump, save it if that's important to you.
Raven R code 281 Report post Posted February 21, 2017 It is my original pump for my motor. They are very simplistic but there is a sequence of events to follow. It's not really much different than doing a wheel bearing. 1 RPM reacted to this
barnett468 418 Report post Posted February 21, 2017 i wouldn't use it either, especially if it really is cracked . your not building a points judged concourse car . you can get an original looking high flow cast iron one from flowkooler for around $120.00 which is what i have done several times . it flows far better than the orig pump. Raven R code 281 Report post Posted February 22, 2017 Water pump came apart very easily. Getting hot dipped today! The crack on the inside is along the thread for the back cover plate.....should be fine. May look into getting it welded just in case.
barnett468 418 Report post Posted February 22, 2017 Looks like fun . I hope you are replacing the bearing.
