bryonbush 85 Report post Posted December 13, 2015 when i finished my engine swap this spring, i ended up having to cut my fan shroud in half for it to clear the fans. I installed a Champion 3 row, 24", passenger side radiator and with the stock shroud it would hit the fans. So i cut it in half, and was using the lower half but it looked trashy. Wanting to find a shroud that will work with the thicker radiator. Anyone have any suggestions?
7TCatvert 24 Report post Posted December 14, 2015 Good luck....I had to butcher one up to get it to fit right and still looks bad....thinking about having an alum one made and paint it black...
MikeStang 247 Report post Posted December 14, 2015 Go to electric Fans from a Cougar or a Mestique or a Contour.... The dual fans have the PERFECT size shroud for the Champion 24" Radiator...Ask me how I know 1 JayEstes reacted to this
bryonbush 85 Report post Posted December 14, 2015 im seriously considering it. the only think that im worried about is if my new alternator i just bought can handle it. i think i went to the 65 amp one even though i don't have AC. ive been following a thread on VMF where a guy put one on his 69 vert. MikeStang 247 Report post Posted December 14, 2015 Just upgrade to a 100+ amp Alt and be done with it. The conversion isn't hard Altho the 65 Amp Might handle it, you will just need to wire the fans to relays and use a cheap controller to trigger the relays... The biggest hit is when the fans come on but after they are on and going their amp draw drops off a lot.
bryonbush 85 Report post Posted December 14, 2015 i found this relay set up that turns each fan on 10 seconds apart. i don't have AC and no fancy lights so i couldnt imagine the 65 amp not being able to handle it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Davies-Craig-0444-Digital-Radiator-Fans-Controller-Adjustable-Temperature-Range-/331368327733
shaun071 62 Report post Posted December 14, 2015 I had the same fan set up with a 55amp alternator and it worked fine. Definitely run the fans through relays, preferably 1 relay per fan
MikeStang 247 Report post Posted December 15, 2015 Yep hit the junk yard and find ya 2 of the 75 amp ford relays and a little relay holder and associated wiring harness that goes with it.
