LindenBruce 27 Report post Posted October 28, 2015 Thanks guys. I can't wait to get her started. Hopefully in the spring. I will be buying the last few items I need this winter. B.
shaun071 62 Report post Posted October 28, 2015 Very neat job! You've set the standard for the rest of us! It's interesting the tri-y headers fit so well. It would be interesting to see if Tri-ys for clevelands fit as well. I had 4-1 headers on my Cleveland and they were hard up against the pan.
LindenBruce 27 Report post Posted October 31, 2015 Yeah, the fit great around the tranny. BUT, very tight on the shock towers AND the idler arm. B.

mwye0627 44 Report post Posted November 1, 2015 Granted, the OD trannys get better mileage, but I can buy a lot of gallons of gas for the $1,500 or $3,000 to do the conversion. Heck, I may not live long enough to break even. Then on top of the cost, you've got the labor involved. The 4R70W transmission offers a lot more than just an overdrive gear. They have a 2.84:1 first gear ratio vs. a 2.40:1 first gear ratio on other Ford automatics. This will give a lot more usable torque taking off from a stop, and yet you will still have a 0.7:1 overdrive gear. Another bonus, A lock up torque converter!!! You can use a torque converter from a 1999 to 2002 Mustang with a 3.8 Liter V6 for a 2200 to 2600 stall speed when used behind a decent 302 or 351W... jmlay 80 Report post Posted November 4, 2015 The kick-down looks like it is touching the tunnel. Are my eyes deceiving me?
LindenBruce 27 Report post Posted November 6, 2015 The shifter rod attachment nut is just about 1/32 away from the tunnel in the park position. It is tight there. When in "R" or "D" there is more than enough clearance as that lever moves forward away from the tunnel. But then again, the motor mounts are new and standing tall. Once they get some use it should clear even further. Because the AOD NEVER came behind an FE, I had to use an adaptor plate to bolt the two together. Which puts the tranmission back into the tunnel about an 1 1/2" more than normal. The TV linkage arm clears with no problem at all. B.
tonyinsandiego 37 Report post Posted December 29, 2015 HI Bruce, I'm curious as to how you like the trans after a few years and what is your opinion on the reliability behind the big block...which I'm guessing isn't stock. Nicely done. I'm currently putting in a AOD behind a 351C motor. Waiting on getting the flywheel and torque converter to work together. Holes are off between the torque converter and flex plate.
