Chris'69Mach 23 Report post Posted December 23, 2013 I was wondering if anyone on here uses the Rotella brand oil in their engines for the zinc additive or they just add in the additive with reg dino oil.

Not the only products out there but this is the stuff I use. Brian
Chris'69Mach 23 Report post Posted December 23, 2013 Thanks for the info! You got my curiosity up and did a little research. The oil you are using is a perfect alternative to Rotella T 10w-30. How often are you changing your oil? 3k or beyond?
fordguy69 24 Report post Posted December 23, 2013 I am using zinc additives with synthetic oil. I think I read somewhere that they had reduced the zddp in rotella also! With the synthetics, I change it at 5K intervals.
Chris'69Mach 23 Report post Posted December 23, 2013 Has anyone used Amsoil's Z-Rod 10w-30? I am a little gun shy using synthetic oil in my Cleveland at the moment. Now, if had recently rebuilt the engine myself, then I would use the synthetic oil with ZDDP in it.
70Mach03 12 Report post Posted December 23, 2013 I use Rotella 15W-40 in my 1970 351C-4V M-Code Mach 1. I've been running it for about 10 years and about 40,000 miles with no problems. If I had roller rockers I'd go synthetic 10W-30 but with the older tech motors like mine, zinc is important. Had a buddy who went synthetic with an old school SB Chevy and ended up flattening his cam in about a year.

FrozenMonkey 12 Report post Posted December 23, 2013 I use the exact same stuff Bryan is using. VR1 ain't cheap but beats the crap out of wiping my flat tappet cam.
Brian Conway 264 Report post Posted December 23, 2013 I use the exact same stuff Bryan is using. VR1 ain't cheap but beats the crap out of wiping my flat tappet cam. I am running a solid lifter set up on my beasty and the proper oil is not to be over looked. The printed info on the VR 1 carton says push rods too. I got two 6 qt. cases on Amazon last month. After $15 rebate and free shipping ended up $4.50 a qt. I change oil and filter every 2 years or 3000 miles which every comes first. Could stretch that out but why ?
