My son in law has a 70 coupe and two 69 Mach I's all in pieces and parts. I brought this part over and asked me what it was ?

 

I have no idea but it looks like something for the lighter in the dash of the 70 coupe. But that's just a guess. Not anything I've seen on my Mach I but yet Mine is not yet dis assembled.

 

So can identify what it is ?

+1. Illuminates the switch when you pull the headlight switch out to the parking lights position. Light goes out when the headlight switch is pulled out to turn on the headlights.

Seems like the original pic of "what is this" is lost.  I am trying to find out how to install the ignition switch light bulb and it is just dangling back there.  Any help on sending me a pic of how this light is installed?  Perhaps there is a bracket I am missing.

Just had to replace the bulb in mine last weekend, this is one of those feel around installs, the hole for it right above the ignition switch.

Really?!!  I haven't been able to go check, but where the hell?  Is it a bracket with a hole that the bulb and socket fit into?  Sure wish I had noticed this when I had the dash out for paint!

It's not a bracket, it just plugs into a hole in the dash above the switch. If my memory hasn't failed me the dash is 2 layers of metal, at the ignition switch location there is a gap for the light to shine into and that's also why the bezel nut has holes around its circumference, to allow the light to pass thru. I'll try to get a photo this evening when I get home, don't know if it will be possible though. If I find out the installation is different than stated I'll be the first to admit I'm 'full of s&$?' , wouldn't be the first time!

I COULD NOT see the holes from under the dash or anything, but I jammed my hand up there, and felt around alot.  I finally stuck my finger in that hole.

(it is DIRECTLY above the keyhole in the ignition switch but it is on the dash).  I stuck the new LED in it's holder in there - it fit perfectly, and it lights up beautifully!  The light is cast right through the cracks in the key switch, and looks great - especially with a LED in there.

 

Keep in mind - like rmarks said - that this light is ONLY ON when the headlight switch is half-way out, it's not illuminated in the headlights OFF position or the headlights ON position.  It's only illuminated in the "parking lights" position (= half-way out).

Hard to believe I don't recognize it.  Anyway, thanks so much for this info - a great help.  It looks fantastic with a LED in there too.

here is a pic of the last LED i have been using.

They do have a cool color (bluish), but I am ok with that.

This was a pack of 4, before I put the last one in our 71 on the shifter.

Makes a really nice light in there.
