Steering Wheel Removal

Recommended Posts

I am trying to remove the rim blow steering wheel from my column. I have the center cover off and have removed the nut from the shaft. I see (I think) the two screws on the hub that i use for my puller but i cant seem to get to both because there is a black spring that is the entire diameter of the rim blow mechanism between the center piece of the rim blow and the steering wheel hub--a picture would help.

Before I start torque'ing away, I wanted to make sure I am not missing something.

This is probably detailed in my service manual.

When I tore mine apart - there wasn't a spring. Took screws out of pad (from the back) to expose nut. Removed nut and then used 'normal' puller to yank it off.

Yep, mine too. I see a trend.

I'm pretty sure this is a spring. I assume it allows the rim blow asym to rock back and forth making contact and blowing the horn.

Look at page 74 of the chassis asym manual--Installation Steering Column.

This is what was making it difficult to get the two bolts of my puller into the wheel.

Oh well its off.
