panteramatt 1 Report post Posted July 8, 2012 Im going to be installing a new 1" swaybar and want to know should I grease the 2 rubber mounts? If so, should I put grease zerks in them?
LindenBruce 27 Report post Posted July 8, 2012 If you are using rubber then no grease. The grease will cause the rubber to break down with time and they will squirt out like a slug being stepped on by a hippo. Now, if you are using poly, then yes use some grease as they tend to squeak. panteramatt 1 Report post Posted July 8, 2012 These are rubber. Is poly better?
maxum96 32 Report post Posted July 8, 2012 I have poly and yes they squeak. One of these years i'm gonna put zerks in so I don't have to take them off to grease them. I use a special synthetic grease for them.

panteramatt 1 Report post Posted July 9, 2012 I have a grease needle already, didnt think it would get in there good enough though. So the verdict is if its rubber dont grease it?
jmlay 80 Report post Posted July 9, 2012 I agree if it is rubber do not use automotive grease on it. Ipi could use powdered graphite or possibly a rubber friendly lube if they squeak, silicone or possibly white lithium grease.
LindenBruce 27 Report post Posted July 9, 2012 Yeah don't use grease on rubber. Both are petroleum products and when combined they react and want to revert back to their original states. If you want to grease up rubber use a non petroleum based grease or synthetic. But in my humble opinion your won't need to grease rubber. Rubber is also softer then poly so it gives more. Some people like the poly because it gives more road feel and responds quicker. Poly is also more jarring to your frame and suspension components. Remember, if you strengthen one area, the normal stresses a vehicle sees will be transferred down the link to the next weakest point. But then, unless your road racing, you won't know the difference. I used a combination of rubber and poly on my suspension. Bruce

panteramatt 1 Report post Posted July 9, 2012 Should I drill through the bracket and bushing and put a zerk in there?
PaleRider 12 Report post Posted July 10, 2012 old trick is to put teflon tape around bar where poly bushings go. No need to grease and no squeak.
panteramatt 1 Report post Posted July 10, 2012 really? this works? I would think the tape wouldnt last long.
PaleRider 12 Report post Posted July 10, 2012 Did on mine 4 years ago - no squeaks yet.

Klutch 17 Report post Posted July 12, 2012 I've heard dialectric grease works well for lubing poly bushings. What say you guys? FYI, I installed the Polygraphite sway bar bushings from PST on a '69 Cougar that used to be my daily driver. Those bushings are impregnated with graphite. No squeaks! And they look mostly stock. CandyAppleRed 10 Report post Posted July 19, 2012 Should I drill through the bracket and bushing and put a zerk in there? Unless you have a lot of room between the bar and the bushing you would also need to cut some type of groove in the bushing for the grease to follow.
