l.duckworth14 10 Report post Posted April 11, 2012 Im a noob with a 69 coupe 351c the dipstick was broken when I got it is there a way to remove the tube and pull out the broken piece (if its actually in there) or will I have to drop the transmission? Suggestions?
jholmes217 65 Report post Posted April 11, 2012 Not sure about a Cleveland, but on a 302 with a C4, the dipstick is held in by one bolt in the top of the bellhousing. Take that bolt out, then with much turning and twisting and pulling, the dipstick tube should come out. Have you tried running a part retriever round magnet down the tube to see if the dipstick is in there?
dennyb68 11 Report post Posted April 11, 2012 You wouldnt have to drop the trans just the pan. If you take out the dipstick tube bolt you should be able to get the tube out.
Lemon Owner 11 Report post Posted April 11, 2012 As the others said you won't have to remove the trans. You may just have to remove the tube. Nothing difficult.
TexasEd 191 Report post Posted April 11, 2012 unfortunate thread titles like this are why I always call it a transmission. And yes, the C4's just pulls out, held in by the friction of the rubber washer.
