Non- Mach 1 351W?

Recommended Posts

Yes, 351W 2v H code and 351W 4v M code, 428 4v R code and Q code were available as an optional engine choice in all models of 69 Mustangs.

In 1970 the 351 had 3 different combos of 351 engines the 351W 2v H code, 351C 2V h code, and the 351C 4V M code. The 351W 4v M code was dropped in favor of the 351C 4v M code. The 428 4v R and Q codes were available as an option in all mustangs models as well

The 69 and 70 Mach1 and 69 GT model had a standard engine starting with the 351W 2V H code.

All the other 69 and 70 mustang models standard motors were the 200 1v I6 engine T code.

The only exception to this line was the 69 Mustang E' model. There was no other engine option for this model. The 69 Mustang E' model standard engine was the 250 1v I6 L code.

In 1969 you could get a 200 1v T code I6, 250 1v engine L code I6, a 302W 2v F code V8, a 351W 2v H code V8, a 351W 4v M code V8, a 390FE 4V S code V8, a 428FE 4v Q code V8, a 428FE 4v R code V8. There were 2 Boss mustangs, the 302Boss 4V G code V8 , and the 429Boss 4v Z code.

In 1970 the line up remained the same except Ford dropped the 351W 4v M code v8, 390FE 4V S code v8 and the GT model, and the Mustang E model

Also ...

Like the Mach 1 & GT, the 1969 Grande' had the "H" code 351W 2V as the base engine and had all the same upgraded engine options.

The 351W 2V was also the base engine in ALL 1969 and 70 Cougars (1970 could be a 351W or 351C).

It appears that the base 1970 Grande' engine was the 200 six.

Also note that all 351 Mustangs & Cougars had a 9" 28 spline rear axle as std.

sorry to dispute you but the 1969 Grande's base motor was the I6 200 1V T code

The 351W 2v H code motor was an optional motor for all except the Mach1, Gt, Mustang E, The Bosses, and the Shelby GT 350's.

My source is the The Mustang recognition Guide 1965-1973 By Larry Dobbs, Donald Farr, Jerry Heasley, Rick Kopec.

You are right ... I'm slipping in my old age !! I had looked in my Recognition Guide as I was making my post, but it really did not say one way or the other for either '69 or 70. Did a search on line for '70 Grande' and saw that the 200 six was std. in it, but was confident in my '69 Grande' 351W base assumption.

Now just looked now in my "1969 Facts Book" (a re-print also compiled by the same editors of Mustang Monthly) and it says the 200 six was std. in the Grande' as well as all Mustangs but Mach 1 (and obviously the Boss'es & Shelby's that were not yet released when this early dealer "facts book" was printed).

I must have been confusing the Grande' with 1969 Cougar ... my '69 expertise has slipped a bit over the years.

I have seen lots of Grandes over the years, and very few have sixes in them. It seems a lot if not most of the 69s had 351 2vs in them, and it seems that most 70s I have seen have 302s in them. Just one guys observations, not scientific at all. Wonder how the numbers really play out.
