opie_803 14 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 anyone familiar with this and how it may work verses R&P set up? https://www.borgeson.com/xcart/home.php?cat=
m3rol 10 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 looks nice, no mods and very close to the original setup. also not too expensive compared to a R&P kit and maybe you can keep your turning radius, pretty simple setup
70mstang 11 Report post Posted January 19, 2010 the kit in the pics seem to be missing some pieces. I didn't see a control valve or the power cylinder? And would a manual steering set up use the same center link as a power set up? If you already have those pieces maybe you'd be all set.
opie_803 14 Report post Posted January 19, 2010 i dont know much about this set up. it looks like the power steering hoses attach to the gear box itself. i havent had a chance to contact the company for additional info.
Grabber70Mach 107 Report post Posted January 19, 2010 I've been interested in this setup myself. From what I have gathered it is a integral power steering box that uses a manual steering center link or an adapter for the power center link. The hoses do go to the box. jmlay 80 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 Some good reading on the subject: http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/mod-custom-forum/606694-borgeson-power-steering-conversion.html http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/802553-borgeson-steering-box-questions.html http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/790455-new-mustang-steering-product.html
opie_803 14 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 i spoke with the mfg today and found out a little more. the rep said the box has a built-in pressure valve that is in the closed position when going straight and opens up as you turn to provide power assist. much like the new cars where there is hardly any power steering on straight aways and more in curves and parking situations. the gear box does not change any of the factory steering geometry so there is no bump steer. the only clearance issue was with the factory z-bar manual transmissions. this maybe a good alternative to the r&p set up after all. jmlay, thanks for those links. that was some good info too! jmlay 80 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 It has been a while since I read thru those threads but is seems that you are not advised to use a factory pump, they recommend what amounts to a Chevy pump. My car is far from on the road but this seems like a very nice alternative to a rack and opinion, if you can use the Ford pump successfully.
