fro_drummer 10 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 Anyone seen a coupe with shelby body parts. I like the coupes, and I like the shelbys. Wondering if anyone has seen a combination of the two??
dmac 10 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 I havent seen one, but it would seem like the front clip (fenders, grill, etc.) would install on a coupe. Sounds kind of cool!
S code 69 13 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 The california special had the Shelby tail end on a coupe, half way there.
Denver69 10 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 Do a search for Shelby de Mexico and take a look at the '69s. These were all '69 coupes that were "Shelbyized" and sold in Mexico. Not many people know about these. Many years ago when I was in high school, I found an ad in the paper for a '69 Shelby that was really cheap. A friend of mine and I drove over and found this coupe sitting in the driveway with no hood and really ratty. I thought to myself, "no way is this a true Shelby because it's a coupe." We tried to start the thing and when a flame came out of the carb about four feet high (I'm not kidding), we jumped out of the car and ran for our lives. Looking back, it may well have been one of these. Lord it was a mess though.
69shelbycoupe 11 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 I am building a 69 shelby coupe. I've bought all of the body parts already. You just have to order all parts for a 69 shelby convertible and they all fit the coupe.
fro_drummer 10 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 69shelbycoupe, It would be great if you could post pics of your build. I have tried to photoshop a shelby coupe, but it just doesn't look right. How far along are you with your build?
69shelbycoupe 11 Report post Posted November 26, 2009 I don't have any of the parts on it yet. I am getting ready to start all of the frame/floor repair that is needed then the body work.
70Mach03 12 Report post Posted November 26, 2009 I definitely think it would look cool, kinda like a "convertible" hardtop. Can't wait to see pictures.
RogerC 136 Report post Posted November 26, 2009 The 69 mexican shelbys didn't use the regular shelby nose. They had the stock nose with a shelby style hood. May have been a cut down version of an actual shelby hood as they were a couple of inches longer. They also had a fiberglass roof cap that extended the C pillars to give it a profile like the fastbacks, hence the vinyl tops to hide it. Check the galleries on this site. I think there are numerous cars on here with the deck lid and side scoops. There's no reason the shelby style nose wouldn't fit if you wanted to use it but you have to convert to the 2 headlights from the 4.
