  1. So I went to start the motor today and it wouldn't start. Checked for fuel and it was all good. Checked spark and nothing. Im running a MSD pro billet dizzy with a MSD 6A box. I changed out the magnetic pickup in the dizzy about 6 months back when I found it a bit rusty . So I changed the coil and no go. The funny thing is if i do the paperclip test on the trigger plug i have spark. As soon as i plug the coil lead and trigger wire back in the motor starts first turn. This is an intermittent fault and has just started . Sometimes it starts and sometimes it doesn't. Anyone have any other ideas . Could the 6A box be on its way out . Its probably about 12 years old but hasn't had much use from new. TIA .
  2. I’m going to give the AC a good go next week when I get home but it’s definitely looking good so far. I was chasing a miss and turned out the near new msd leads were arcing . That’s 2 sets of msd leads I’ve gone through. I ended up using some Eagle leads and they seem to be quite good and awesome service .
  3. Hi Mal, I have just fitted two 12 inch Maradyne fans just like Vic and man they suck some serious air . Those other fans I was running are rubbish. No more high motor temps and the condenser seems to be pretty good now. They fit perfect side by side on the shroud that I made up . I’m running a 190 deg thermostat and it sits just above that now even on the 43 deg C day we had in Perth the other day. If you thinking about going electric fans again I highly recommend these . I purchased them for about $180 each from a place in Adelaide. Its always good to have a spare compressor .
  4. Just make sure you’re running the latest update Vic . I have it so if you need it just let me know and I can email it to you with the instructions. I have the update for the handheld without the white arrows. If your handheld has the white arrows around the joystick you need to contact FiTech. If you know how much vacuum your motor makes at idle this will help choose the cam and fuel table.
  5. Thanks for the info Vic. I will look into the fan controller. Are you running that FiTech command centre. Ive heard nothing but bad things about them. FiTech have since updated this unit. I went in tank pump and love it.
  6. Thanks Vic. My fans are hooked up to my FiTech unit . Unfortunately my FiTech only has one fan controller and not duel fan setup like some. Ive also made it so when the AC gets turned on both fans come on as well. It seems to work well though. I put the new higher cfm fans in yesterday. They are the 12 inch Maradyne fans. Its hot over here , well over 100 deg and its made a huge difference.
  7. Yes my system has a pressure switch. You can see it in the pic that i posted. Its never cut in though. I have just replaced the two thermo fans with higher cfm units. I think this has made a huge difference.
  8. Hi Neil . No ice build up on the pipes. When I had the system gassed up the guy said that my pressure spiked due to the fact that I hadn’t set up my thermo fans to come on as soon as the AC is on. I fixed the straight away . I’m currently fitting two maradyne fans. These pull shit loads more air than the ones I currently run. You can tell when in traffic the ac isn’t as cold as when cruising down the hwy.
  9. Its not the engine temp aslanefe . Its the condenser temp im worried about. High temps in the condenser means high pressure causing premature failure of the pump seals. I have just replaced a sanden style compressor with a genuine unit due to front seal going so just want to make sure I've got things covered. My condenser is a about 2.5 inches away from the radiator so there a gap between them . Just wanted to know if this distance is normal. Factory AC cars use the BB radiators so it sit further forward maybe.
  10. Just had a look at mine Vic and it appears to be the same as the pic but I’ve got a 2 1/2 inch gap between the radiator on condenser. I purchased it through classic auto air and it came with all the brackets attached and bolted straight in.
  11. Thanks for the info bud. When I get home on the weekend I’m going to compare to see what the difference is on mine . I will let you know how I go . I’ve got a feeling my condenser is mounted in front and not like the pic .
  12. My 69 came with factory AC. I’ve replaced all the under hood components as they were long gone when I purchased the car. As my radiator it mounted behind the support and the condenser is mounted in front of the rad support it creates a large gap . I’ve read that the condensor should be as close as possible to the radiator so it eliminates high pressure issues in the AC compressor and also stop turbulence between the two thus cooling the radiator more effectively. What have others done to overcome these issues?
  13. I put a powermaster in my mustang and are happy with it. Uses the same brackets so no mods . It says you don’t need a fuse but I put one in just to be safe.
  14. I’m ok as I live on the West Coast. Most of the fires are on the East Coast. It’s bad real bad. Millions of animals are dead . Some species will become extinct that say. Over 2000 homes destroyed and lots of people have perished.
  15. I ended up doing some filling on all four corners . The light buckets were out a few mm as well . But that was normal back in the day . I had to buy a second hand rear extension also as one of the tabs were the thread goes in had snapped. Shipping is what’s a killer plus tax.
  16. I had to do mine as well . Not as bad though. I just keyed up the pot metal and used fibre fill to get the rough shape. Then used rage gold filler or dolphin glaze before epoxy priming . Still looks good after few years in our Aussie climate.
  17. I noticed my lower radiator spring was pretty ordinary and you could squeeze the hose easily. The springs that get supplied with the hose are pretty light weight so I decided to find a replacement. I ventured out to the shed to see what I could find and found that the springs that are in the gear sprinklers are a perfect fit . You need two but what a difference. I was lucky enough to have a couple of old broken sprinklers in my spare box . I can’t even squeeze the hose at all now. Thought I would just share this as it may help out others.
  18. Caseyrhe is correct. The one screw goes to the rear. The amount of trim that gets placed on the wrong way is amazing. Including mine. John its time to buy some good used units or find some nice repco ones. I purchased some repco trim many many years ago . Like so many after market bits there not great but work. They may have improved now days.
  19. Im not sure on the specs on runout but you won't minimum on both radially and axially. I had some minor axial runout on my flex plate on my c4 and the torque converter spout was worn that much it needed replacing. This also damages the seal.
  20. Oh man I didn’t want to hear that but thanks Bigmal. And they fit perfectly as well. I should have bought two Spal 12 inch fans and fabbed up a shroud. Damn . My motor was getting hot with the standard fan and cowl also in traffic so that why I wanted to try these fans out.
  21. Can’t wait to see one painted up and on a 69 to get the full effect of what it’s gonna look like . Nice work Jim.
  22. Yeah Neil it came with both . I’ve checked it and it’s pretty clean with just a few bits stuck to the magnet. I’m pretty sure my instructions said use the coarse one first and then change to the fine filter .
  23. Ok cheers for the advice Barney. I did start playing with the timing to see if that would have any affect. I’m running an msd pro billit non vac advance distributor. Also running 98 octane fuel . I can’t get the motor to ping if I advance it . Even had it at 18 deg and still no ping. Any advice on what’s a good baseline to start. I with thinking 12/14 deg.
  24. Hi Barney, Ive only really noticed it since installing the new AC components. It was factory AC but the previous owner removed all the under hood parts. Its pretty much stock as far as I can tell. i will try and get a photo next break of the radiator tubes when I install a new thermostat.
  25. Cheers Dave . Yes the original fan and shroud was correct . I was just wondering about the radiator having the inlet and outlet hoses on the same side . Plus running the AC isn’t helping .
